I loved DOS and 3.11. I spent more time in DOS then any other OS. I had DOS 2.x in my first 8088 in 1982ish. As for OS/2 Warp...well that was pure crap. I just cant believe you have a poll and leave off the OS that was around the longest. I did vote for 3.1 since 3.11 was not listed. biggrin.gif I guess a poll for worse OS should be next with contenders like OS/2 Warp, Windows ME and Vista up for the title.

DOS was ok, but it was somewhat limited (even for it's day): single user, no sane method for multi-tasking, lack of any decent scripting ability. It seemed particularly limited back in the early 80s as I'd sooner have a desktop computer running a BASIC interpreter than a CLI environment that was essentially only useful as a launcher and file manager. I recall having I AmsDOS and CP/M disks for my Amstrad CPC 464 that I'd have to manually run from BASIC and the whole thing seemed utterly pointless.

Why the OS/2 hate? It's one of the few OSs I've never used but from all accounts that I've read, it ran circles around Win3.x

I do not have a favorite OS..; I use one I think is the best for a specific task.

I use W7 for gaming ( no choice here )

I use Mountain Lion for browsing and some specific apps

I use Debian 6 for general exerimentiions and Linux only programs

I use Solaris but I will have to switch to FreeBSD ( ) on my Homeserver

My favorite all time OS is Windows NT 4.0 because all modern OS are build upon it. It was stable, fast and stream lined. Very limited if you were going to use it today, but back in 96 it was the shiznit.

I was going to list DOS but since its not on the list I chose Windows 8 as its the best OS I've used SINCE DOS. That is pretty high praise coming from an old CMD line guy.

I'm assuming he is referring to the "ntkernel" line of operating systems: 2000, XP, as well as vista and 7 (with corresponding server versions) and it wouldn't surprise me if there was some NT left in 8 as well. I'm not sure if they started over for windows phone but I'm fairly certain whatever that is that runs the 360 has some NT kernel as well (the NT4 install CD had a PPC install folder there next to the x86, MIPS and Alpha folders...which is why it wouldn't surprise me). Hopefully no one would think Linux or BSD-based OSes have some NT in them.
