THIS! ^

I too grew up using 98, loved the look and sounds of it tongue.gif Then came XP and 7

Windows 2000 was actually really good with all the device support and all.

Other than the above, pretty much every OS they is crap or a mistake.

Only a Linux or Mac fanboy with a long memory would choose Windows ME. Steaming pile of crap. Makes Vista look like a masterpiece of execution. I figured out how to make it work and run stable, but it was WAY more trouble than it was worth. I went back to using and installing 98se on everything. Somewhere, I still have an install disc for ME, but I haven't touched it in more than 10 years.

I voted for XP, but I thought 98se, 2000, XP and 7 were all excellent once they'd been out long enough to work out all of the bugs. I still run the 64-bit version of XP on my laptop.

Also a thumbs-up for Puppy Linux, which I've run successfully on a ton of older machines.

Loving Windows 8, no problems here. Windows 7 is a close 1st/2nd as i never had any problems with it either.

For Linux i use Debian or CentOS depending on implementation.

Surely not as your "favourite" OS?
Can't really stand using anything other than Windows 98, XP or 7. Generally I won't even use a computer if it doesn't have at least XP on it.

I have no problem with OSX, but it really isn't geared for a performance user.

Keeping mind I haven't actually used OS X since 2005 (I worked for apple for a year or so) and don't necessarily have any care for it one way or the other i have to take issue with that statement. If you just did a default install of XP without any modifications on the first logon...you would not think this is a system aimed at power users or anybody who has ever used a mouse before for that matter. Similarly OS X can be quite tweaked the the "nth degree" to be whatever kind of system you want it to be (supposed to be some kind of BSD derivative after all). Or perhaps I mis-understood your meaning.

Personally I find Windows 7 to be one of the most inflexible OSs out there.
