Second monitor goes black with fullscreen apps or games

Sometimes when I start games like Max Payne 3, bf3 or any game (except source games) my second monitor goes black and I have to minimize and go back in multiple times to get it to show up and show my gadgets and stuff which is extremely annoying. I know its not a problem with my gtx 680 because It has done this even with my old 4890s and 6970. Any thoughts?

So what is on the other screen you need to see?

Run the games windowed, then maximize them. Problem solved.

my steam friend list gadgets etc. I shouldn't have to change every exe to windowed then maximize to prevent this.
