i7 3770K + Maximus V GENE OC problems.

Well guys, I must admit that I expected beter OC from the 3770K than with my previous 2600K.

I got it to 4.6GHz@1.288V, LLC set to Extreme, PLL 1.775V but that's all, it won't go higher and crashes directly. At 4.6GHz Prime95 the 8th HT thread crashed after 17 minutes while the others passed 12h without problems. Raising the BCLK makes it BSOD quite fast, the codes are different: 1, 0C, 50.
The Maximus V GENE has so many different voltage settings that I just can't find out which one do I have to raise biggrin.gif

Thanks, but I've already read it (and a few other OC guides...)
Bumped all available voltages up till they became yellow in BIOS and it didn't help at all.

I'm very curious why changing the BCLK from 100 to 101 makes it crash so fast.

You may want to try lowering your LLC to ultra-high or high, and increasing your Vcore. The Extreme LLC setting overshoots the voltage, and has high voltage spikes that are bad for the cpu. Some people are able to get stable overclocks with less voltage (higher in bios, lower in actuality because of vdroop) because they use less LLC.

Just a suggestion, it may not work, but hey, it's worth a shot.

According to CPU-Z, the Extreme LLC setting is the only one that has no vdrop! All other have quite a big vdrop.
I also changed the setting from fixed voltage to offset mode. However it gives me 0x0000050 bluescreens and "Prime95 stopped working" error

Yes, all the other settings will have vdroop, but some vdroop is better for your cpu. You will need to set a higher voltage, but after vdroop, you may end up being stable at a lower voltage.

When you switched to offset mode, did you adjust the offset at all?

Yes, it's set to +0.0030 and I lowered the LLC to High. CPU-Z reports 1.256Vcore under prime95 now but still the 8th HT thread crashes after 20 minutes.

How it's possible when it's working on standard settings? 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 CR1, I even set the voltage to 1.55V to exclude problems with ram...

Prime95 is running for 10 minutes, offset set to +0.0060 which gives 1.280-1.272 Vcore, no errors yet.

And again, after 16 minutes the 8th thread crashed....
