With the mklink function in windows 7 its possible to put files where ever you want them, while having the program or windows still think they are in the same place. So here is my question, to save on space, are there files in BF3 that are rarely used that I could put onto my mechanical harddrives and keep the level files (for quick loading) on my SSD? Even if you dont know (I sure dont lol) share you thoughts on this. Could work on many games besides BF3. You could even link your entire Program Files directory to another drive, keeping the windows directory on the SSD would still reduce boot times

There is nothing wrong with this idea in theory; a hard linked file is going to be indistinguishable to the program. However, the vast majority of data in most games is going to be textures and other game assets, or levels, all of which will be accessed very frequently.
You could probably move all documentation and intro movies/cut-scenes and save at least some space. It's not going to be much though.
