The 660 will be a lot more gimped than the 670 was. With that said, it'd probably launch at $350 if it had 1152 shaders.

I agree.

None that I've heard. The June 25th(24th?) date that we heard turned out to be false, so I wouldn't hold my breath on the next rumor.

Because it's Nvidia. biggrin.gif

Haha as much as I love them, they charge a crap ton for their tech. Like Intel.

Doesn't stop me from buying from them, but doesn't stop me from complaining, either.

I'd say the 660 will get a nice round $300 price tag. With decent features that don't really justify the price tag.

i have my doubts though, for nvidia to leave such a gap in the market raises some questions in my head
1- that they are working on inventory to have as many as they can since the 300 dollar market will need more supply because there is more demand
2- they could be working on the rumored gk106 which will have 768 shaders to release it as gtx 660

if the second is true then the card should be slower than a 7870, but faster than a 7850 and will be named gtx660
as for the gtx660ti then maybe they will use gk104 for that one with 1152shaders to be faster than a 7870 and matching or slightly slower than 7950

all this is speculation based on rumors i read here and there.

however lets now get back to the subject XD

sadly i'm predicting a 300 dollar price tag as well. welps... guess 7850 dragon edition is my next best bet

that would make sense, $200-$250 GPUs tend to sell a lot, and another smaller GPU would make sense, the difference from gk104 to gk107 is quite big, so the GTX 660 could more or less replace the 560 Ti, and a GK104 660 Ti could replace the GTX 570/580 and compete with the 7870-7950.

As much as shading processors are thrown around, they are clearly not the bottleneck of the GK104: a GK104 with 1152 Shaders, 96 TMUs, 24 ROPs and 192 bit memory bus would probably perform very close to a "GK105" with 768 Shaders, 64 TMUs, 24 ROPs and a 192 bit memory bus at the same clocks (not to mention the "GK105" would probably be able to clock higher at the same power consumption.

Stop looking at the number of shader processors, and start looking at pixel processing power and effective bandwidth, they are at the very least equally important to shading power.

256 bit is mandatory. Gpu havent been an issue for a while ( aside from their stupidly agressive power saver on desktop.)the main issue is all dev tend to ignore ms huge amount of hat trick.with the drawback we see.
