my old board was a biostar ta790gxb that failed a while ago, probably from my computer getting knocked around while it was still on, or that my best guess anyway . i haven't replaced a board before so i thought i'd see what you guys thought were some good ones and where to get a good deal.

my cpu is AMD Phenom II X4: socket A2+

i need 4 ram slots for my 4 DDR2 ram sticks. i have 8 gigs ram total

being able to hook 2 monitors to the board would also be nice, but if its cheaper to buy an old video card i might do that instead

my power supply is a corsair cx430

i use my computer for audio and video editing and general computer tasks. don't play any pc games other then the total war games.

Best on-board GPU you can get in the 800-series, 4 slots, excellent board cooling.

Its a little bit of a pain to find now, but its a good board.

EDIT- ah..... I think the 890GPA-UD3H is DDR3... So... Nevermind.

I did some checking and couldn't find a decent AM2+ board for a fair price anywhere. It seems like they've pretty much disappeared out of the retail channel, unless you want to buy something crappy.

You might actually be better off trying to sell your DDR2 memory, and then investing in DDR3 and a new AM3+ motherboard. You'll still pay more, but you'll have a better and faster platform, and the ability to get a new Piledriver CPU later on if you wish. You can get an AsRock 970 Extreme3 for $74.99 shipped at Newegg right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157280, and eight gigs of DDR3 for $41.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157280. I know that's way more than you want to spend, but you could recoup $50 or so by unloading the DDR2 and have a much better platform afterwards.

OP can't buy anything other than an AM2+ board due to the fact that he/she has a AM2+ CPU which only supports DDR2 RAM.

The best bet is to buy a used or refurbished board. You may need to use EBay or Geeks.com sometimes carries AM2+ boards.

Ph IIs have both a DDR2 and DDR3 mem controler on-chip, so unless he has a very old Ph II (and we dont have the number), he'll be fine. Thats AMD backwards compatability for ya

Best advice: Don't chain yourself to that DDR2 over "saving" money. RAM is stupid cheap right now, take advantage of the situation and upgrade. While you are at this crossroads just bite the bullet and spend ~$100 and you will have lightning fast RAM and a rockin new mobo for the same amount of hassle.

You should probably just buy a video card, also your cpu will work in a new am3+ board or an am3 board. You didnt specify micro atx or atx but newegg has one for $50:this one has 4 ram slots,on board video with only one I/o will accept your ddr2 & cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157309

It seams your kind of limited on choices for your price point unless you want to drop $10-$20 more but this board will fit your needs

Or this one $74 after rebate and has 2 video ports so u wil not have to purchase a video card which absolutely justifies the extra $25 over your original budget.
