Does anyone else think Windows 8 looks like a jumbled mess of crap? How about leaving us with the option of the 'classic' Windows desktop and menus, like they have always done before? I guess Windows 7 will be the last version of Windows to be on my desktop.

Most of the new Windows 'features' are for touch screens and the like. Great for tablets or phones but utterly useless for gaming or workstation machines.

all this about missing start button. im using the release version and at bottom right of taskbar when using desktop in win 8 you still have all the menus open up at on click ie control panel and the rest. everything is there at one click just no button. the win 8 start button takes you to the applet desktop instead

Which is a full-screen start button, essentially.

All it does is end up as a worse start-menu called Metro, why would I prefer that to the normal start menu considering I'm not using a touch screen?

oh yes i agree. the metro desktop is nice looking but absolutely useless for everyday use. the ie from the metro desktop is very impressive though. was just bemused by the button missing argument. everthing the start button as we know it does can be done from desktop task bar in windows eight so the functionality is not missing.

In a way it is; the actual functionality is still there but it isn't as anywhere as good as it was.

I use mine a hell of allot, there are programs I don't want to have on the task bar or desktop. Hell, I have Skype pinned to the start menu, rather than the task bar.

Like I said earlier, I don't think it will be coming back. So either find an alternative method, like the one I pictured or some other random way and get used to it. I hate that there will not be an option, but it is what it is. Just a matter of getting used to something else, as there are other methods of getting the same or close to the same functionality of the start button. Either that or move on to another OS that suits your needs better. I think MS is pretty dead set on killing off the start button.

the little search box was the best thing about start menu in win 7, removing that = epic mistake.
