Bsod again after disk copy (please Help)

Thread Starter
Two weeks ago I got a x79 motherboard. I was bsoding wtih my 128gb m4 SSD. Now I upgraded to a 256gb SSD did a disk clone everything is running fine but I'm bsoding again in the same way. Before I updated my SSD firmware and it resolved my problem. Both m4 are now on 000F. But I'm Bsod again in the same way I did before I updated my SSD firmware which resolved my problems before. I'm thinking the new drive loaded the default win7 driver or something but I don't know how to resolve this.

Edit : Random lockups when in explorer and browsing files.

So far so good looks like reinstalling the Intel Rapid Storage Enterprise may have fixed the issue is there anything else I should do. I currently have my temp and tmp and internet cache folders on a Ramdisk is this still recommended. I also have pagefile completely disabled.

Is your secondary drive a HDD or a SSD? If it is a HDD it may be sleeping and then it spins up when you click it so that could be the freeze.

Possibly uninstall the intel SATA drivers completely.

Also, maybe try running the SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (link)

I'm not sure I completely understand your issue, but looking at Sean's post above me made me think the problem might be your power saving settings. Make sure the setting for the hard disk in the control panel is that it doesn't go to sleep. Just my ideas.

All the power saving features are off this problems started after migrating the OS from another SSD. I been searching how to uninstall Sata drivers. When I uninstall them and reboot it automaticly loads them every time I don't know what I'm really doing with that portion. My User folders are on the SSD. I also checked sleep issues and I have had that issue before years ago but this isn't the same when I had drives sleeping before it would only be slow for first few seconds on clicking on a folder or drive. Then after that smooth this is slow for every file I open or every folder that's opened it seems to be isolated to the user folders only other folders seem to work well. It is no longer BSOD ing though it's only give me the spinning will each time I click on things in the user folder for about one second I also can move the folders window around when this is happening the entire desktop freezes for about 1 to 2 seconds. But the mouse still will move if I move it.

Edit : It occurs on all folders sorry I was wrong about that. So far restarting makes the problem go away but it returns after a while I'm not sure how long. I understand it seems like power saving issue but I have nothing like that activated.

Is your User folder, as in the whole user folder itself, on the HDD or did you just move the User folder's folders like the documents, pics, etc via properties?

I would just reinstall myself.

I have a feeling it will be hard to solve since it happens every few hours but could you help me at less try to uninstall the sata drivers I see you meantion it in your turtorials a few times you have links to how to's for some pretty simple stuff but no links for how to uninstall sata drivers. Is this common knowedge type thing or I'm I missing something. I have tried and it seems to reload the drivers on every reboot.

Go to control panel > Uninstall a program > Intel Rapid Storage technology\

or just change to the default Windows SATA driver like this:
  1. Click Start
  2. In the Start menu, type Device Manager, hit Enter
  3. Click "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
  4. You will see AMD SATA Controller, Intel SATA controller, etc., right click and click "Properties"
  5. Go to the "Driver" tab
  6. Click "Update Driver"
  7. Click "Browse my Computer"
  8. Click "Let me pick"
  9. You will see the option to choose "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller", click this and click "Next" and let it install
  10. Then reboot and try to install the new firmware for your drive now

I movied the User folder to another HDD with the smaller SSD and before I trasfered it to the new dirve I moved all the user folders back to the SSD because I will have more space on the new drive and then did a disk clone with Macruim. But I can confirm its happening on all folders and drives now no just the User folder. I don't know if the User folder some how triggers it or not. But I know after it starts its doing it one all folders on all drives. But restart solves it.
I will try this above
