Good cheap silent Mid tower

Thread Starter
Basically the title, I'm looking for a good quality mid tower case for my father.
I have a silent fittings set from newegg and a PSU dampener.
So i guess does case construction matter is silence?

looking at this because he likes the look.

Design is a bigger factor than finish, unless you go for a really cheap, no name brand. Antec does not fall into that category. Get some quiet spinning fans and you should be good to go.

NONONONO do *not* get the 300! I got it on a whim, and it is the loudest case I've had in awhile. The main issue is that the hard drives screw directly "into" the case, which causes the entire case to give off vibration noise. I swapped it for a P280, which is definitely the quietest case I've owned yet. It still emits a soft "hum" because of the fans, but that can't be avoided.

I vouch for the Fractal Design Define series. I have the Define mini and it is near silent with my 560 ti hawk in quiet profile.

Does your dad have a discrete GPU? The GPU will likely be the actual noise factor for the computer aside from case and everything else.

You can find the Define R3 for cheap if you wait, "cheap" meaning at the tip-toes of the top of your budget.

It's shown up like 3 times in the last 6 months... I have it its GREAT.

Another vote for the r3. Spend as much as your dad can afford on the case. It tends to be the bit you upgrade the least often. If he can stretch them go for the p280.

One to avoid is the lian li ao5fn. It's terrible!

I had the define r3 as well. It has noise damper material in it. I was actually told that its the same stuff they put in your trunk to reduce vibration from sub woofers, however don't "quote me on that I have not confirmed it". But for a silent case that's really the best one I have owned. One thing to note you will want a side fan on the r3 so you can get airflow to your video cards. If you can find a sweet deal on it i say go for r3 but if your water cooling don't get it the rubber grommets fall out all the time and are a huge hassle.

Another vote for any Fractal case in general. I personally like the Arc series (both Mini and Midi). After working with a Fractal case, I refuse to buy any other brands. This is after working with Cooler Master and Corsair for years.
