Team Competition Wildcard Category Performance Optimization Discussion

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter

I'm making a thread for each category in TC that TC Members will contribute optimization tips and tricks too. I will expand the op and reserved posts as data is collected. This thread should be used for asking questions, or contributing optimization tips related to the iWildcard category only. Off topic posts will be expunged.

Judging from the TC stats, it appears that the GTX 460 is the most popular option for the Wildcard slot. It'd be cool if everyone posted what they're running, along with OC/temps/voltage/etc so we can create a database of the best cards to run for this slot. thumb.gif

I have an ASUS GTX460 DirectCU running at 895 MHz and 1.050 V. Temperatures are steady at 62C with the fan on auto, the side panel off and a small desk fan blowing into it 24/7. biggrin.gif

EDIT: And I guess I should have mentioned that I get around 15k PPD on the most common WU, 8008. It can drop down to ~12-13k when I get a 7622 or 7623.

It would also be awesome if Blazed_1 stopped by and posted his setup for the Q9550 he was running. That chip was smoking when it was competing. yessir.gif

Thanks, and I'd be happy to share my setup. biggrin.gif

The rig;
Q9550 @ 4.08GHz (480x8.5) 1.39v
EP45 UD3P (1.1)
OCZ Reapers running 960MHz, 5-5-5-15, 1:1

Running all this on the 6.34 SMP client in Ubuntu 10.10 with the BFS kernel. I did have it set for small wu's with the advmethods flag (thanks to arvidab for the tip. wink.gif ) which was pumping out 16-19k PPD but I started getting longer more inconsistent wu's. After that I set it to normal size and got a consistent 16-17k PPD.

I'm sure an i5 760 at 4GHz would be even better though, just look at Kevdog. thumb.gif

Thank you! I just happen to have a Q9550, so if I could get it to put out more points than my 460, then I'd love to switch to it. thumb.gif

I'm just not sure that my C1 stepping Q9550 will do 4.0 GHz. It is in a board that accepts DDR3 RAM though, so it shouldn't be a problem on that end. I'll have to give it a shot in a couple days. smile.gif
