300-400 What do i buy? - Page 2

How about 2560x1440? I am probably going to get the 670 because it is very close to the 680 and significantly cheaper, especially when comparing the 4GB models.

the 4gb cards are very tempting for the future proof. But would 2 possibly (far in the future) three of these

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-evga-gtx-670-superclocked-28nm-pcie-30-(x16)-6008mhz-gddr5-gpu-967mhz-boost-1046mhz-cores-1344-d

Run 3 monitors in the 1440p resolution? I am currently at 1080p res, so just wanna know of they would just incase i ever do upgrade all three of my monitors.

No, when you SLI 2x 670 2GB it will be a total of 2GB VRAM used (by my understanding it mirrors the VRAM so you don't actually combine them). I think it makes sense if you are surely going to be running 3x1080 monitors to get the EVGA 4GB card and SLI them. That will ensure that you never run out of headroom based on just total resolution.

The higher the resolution, the more the bandwith. That is just how it goes. More than likely the 2GB would be fine, but to futureproof such an expensive build, I hate to say it, but go for the 4GB 670. I love my windforce, but i game at 1920x1080

Ahh okay. So i think i am going to go for the evga 670 sc 4gb card then. All though i really hate the design on it. frown.gif .
Also do you know if there is some sort of cahrt or graph too compare or see how much estimated vram will be used at certain resolutions?

Thanks for the reply on answering a pretty important question, now for the last 5-8 weeks of saving through saterday jobs tongue.gif

I think the main thing is.. that almost no games really use that much, there was also an interesting post from a moderator that explained that, although some games do use more than say, a 1GB (I believe his example was skyrim pulling 1.4GB on his 1GB card) there was absolutely no perceived slowdown because it was pretty efficient at using it, and it didn't require all 1.4GB at the exact same time. A bit vague, I know, but there you have it.

That being said, I think Max Payne right now (or skyrim with a super texture pack) are the most VRAM intensive games out there right now. I think that maybe you could get 2GB usage on them... possibly a tad more, probably not suffer slowdown. However, in the near future, Hawken, etc, some games might start capping over that (and this is strictly speaking 3 monitor setup).

Despite the looks, go with the EVGA 4GB. It will futureproof your rig for triple monitor setup. I am perfectly happy having 2x Gigabyte's at 2GB cuz I never plan on having more than one monitor.

If you really want to, you could wait until ASUS or someone else offers a "better looking" 4GB Version... Honestly tho, the EVGA one was the non-reference good cooling solution, I think it will be just fine. These cards really dont run that hot.

I do like EVGA products. And it's going to be about one month or two before i can buy the last pieces of equipment, so i will keep a look out on the market for anything new to spring up.

Thank you for all the replies and really helpful information! I shall be back onto this thread if i find a new product on the market to see if anybody has had any first hand experiences with it, or knows nay other useful information.

Thank you! thumb.gif

Not quiet sure why you have sent these. But im going to go with that yousent them because they are the products you would buy if you were in my situation.

Another sli'd 580. Never considered this. But would be nice to have the 4gb of vram on the 670.

the asus 670, i am getting a evga one because of the 4gb ram again. although i really like the cooler and design of it.

Im not into ATI cards. I have had many issues with two cards in the past.

EDIt: Looking at the 580 sli'd preformance, to see how it would compare.
