Mad FX5700 (non-ultra) overclock ...

Hi all.

First post.

I've been using an MSI FX5700 TD256 for a couple of years now, I thought some of you guys might like to see this.

The card has the standard heatsink on it (copper-plated ally), but lapped dead-flat and mounted with 'Arctic-sliver 5, the little fan removed and instead a dual-ball 8cm fan (resistored to 8 or 9v) mounted under it in the adjacent PCI slot.

default clock.

Stable O/C - I've been running like this for quite a while (Halo, Half-Life 2, Unreal 2004, RTCW and a few others) - no artifacting except for a very occasional flash. The heatsink never gets more than warm!

Maximum O/C (in fact it will take a couple more MHz core and memory), but surely that's pushing my luck?

So;

default; 425/500
stable; 538/634
passes; 554/652

What gives?

Cheers,
R.

(the faithful old girl);
Win2K SP4
Asus TUSL2
PIII-S 1.4 @ 1.58 (150 FSB)
MSI nVidia FX5700 TD256
512MB Crucial SDRAM
2 x Seagate 7200rpm 80GB
Nexus 300w PSU (15A +12v rail)

With temps like that, you definately have more room to go higher! I'm sure that there's a vmod for both the core and memory for your card somewhere, take a shot at it!

There has to be a vmod for the FX5700...I vmodded my old old OLD PC's TnT2 lol.

Hi dude,

I have no temperature monitoring on the MSI, just my fingers (carefully) on the GPU heatsink and the RAM chips - the former never gets more than warm and the RAM kinda hot, but not scarey.

That 8cm fan seems to a good job at cooling the whole board.

ciao.

If you used Speedfan it might pick up a sensor on the FX, but that's iffy.

Do you care if you fry the card? Is it your primary/only card for your desktop?

Erm, read the posts dude.

I've been running the card at those speeds for well over a year. It doesn't seem to get hot-and-bothered at all.

I posted because after seaching for results on o/c'ing the FX5700 (and reading thru a lot of threads here) , I couldn't find anyone getting these kind of numbers.

ciao.
