I've referred two people to the CM Spawn and they love it, granted its their first "gaming" mouse.
But for what you get for the price, its a great buy.
Personally, I don't care for the ring finger rest, but thats opinion.

And on a side note, I'm not sure if it been fixed, but I remember hearing that the G9X has some senor issue.
Also the rubberized skin of the G9X seems to wear pretty fast from some reviews of it.

yeah this would be my first gaming mouse. but i dont want to get the spawn and later down the road regret it because the g9x was better or something. would you recommend any other mice in the price range? but on the g9x i dont play on using the rubbered one.

Hello, I have just this week replaced my old MX518 with a G9x.

518 review
I'm not exactly sure when I bought the 518 but it was back in 2006 or 2007. The mouse still works great after many years of gaming. Since I am building a new pc I decided to let this old mouse stay with the old pc. The only down side to the mouse is the rubber grip on the sides. It wears off fast, does not clean well at all. I actually removed the coating on my mouse and it is much better now. In my opinion this is a great mouse for someone on a budget, but wants a mouse that will never let you down!

G9x review
I have thought about buying this mouse for years. So I ordered one last week and got it in 3 days ago, so I have not gotten used to it yet. It is a different mouse with two different grips and adjustable weight. I'm still playing with the weight and the grips. One grip feel like it has that rubber coating that will come off although I'm not exactly sure if it is the same coating as the 518 yet. The other grip is textured almost like a spray in bed liner for a pickup truck! The mouse feels like a high quality mouse. I honestly think that once I get used to the change I am going to love it. The only glitch I have noticed so far is when I am not touching the mouse, but bump the mouse pad. The arrow on the screen might keep moving even though I'm not touching it! :S

I use a combination of grips depending on what I am doing. I surf the web with palm grip but when gaming and the stress is high I use claw grip more. I'm really thinking a found the perfect replacement mouse for my personal use.

I cannot comment on the CM Spawn, I have never even heard of it until now. I have starting hearing bad things about the RAT mouses, glad I didn't pick one of those up now.

I have owned both the G9x and CM storm spawn (or in the case of the spawn I own it outright). Both are fantastic mice. The G9x got worn down a bit and I ebayed it and got a G700 when I was a less competitive gamer. Now that I ladder in SC2, I needed performance and got a CM Spawn since it was cheaper than the G9x. The G9x and Spawn are very similar in a lot of ways. They both are intended for claw grip and both use high quality omron switches. The G9x has a bunch of little extras like alternate shells (I always used the texture controll shell), weights (I always used none), a very functional mouse wheel (you can use tilting left or right as additional buttons), and a braided cord (Way better than the thick bulky cord of the CM Spawn). However, the Spawn has perfect tracking and a cheaper price so I went with it. I also find it more comfortable to use while gaming than the G9x as I prefer the textured Rubber over long sessions ("that's what she said").

Both are fine choices. The Spawn offers perfect tracking and a different grip experience (at the expense of being locked into 900/1800/3500 DPI) but has a bulky cord (minor negative). The G9x offers a ton of acoutrements but has acceleration-prone tracking (mainly noticeable in FPS games at low sensitivity).
