Going to need a PSU to last

Well, unfortunately I need to RMA my 2 week old NZXT Hale82 750M, as it would create a terribly loud, almost like an "electrical scratching" when under any type of load. So instead of skimping out I'm going to go all out. This'll house my sig rig, and an eventual 670 SLI. I'm sure the wattage is enough, and I hear Seasonic is the best, but I just want to make damn sure that this is the one I should get before pulling the trigger. Here's the PSU One review for this psu said

"-Coil whine is bad when power consumption is high (gaming). So much so that I'm debating on putting my non modular back in and dealing with the mess of cables to avoid it.

Other Thoughts: Anyone who actually needs a 750w power supply to use power their rig will most likely run into issues with the coil whine so if you think that might bother you then you may want to consider a different power supply."

And there are a few reviews complaining about whining. I'm not sure if the people complaining about whining are trying to tri SLI 480's, maybe that's why. I doubt a 670 SLI will max out a 750w, and I'm just afraid of this happening again even though I only have one 670 at the moment. Is coil whine unavoidable? The sound that's causing me to RMA my current PSU, I wouldn't even call coil whine, it's more like coil roaring. It's definitely not something I can just ignore and doesn't sound like the minor coil whine that I had heard coming from my 560 ti when I used it. Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I could go corsair as well, but i hear corsair is just a branch of seasonic. But I'm rarely seeing any reviews on this PSU about whine. However, with my luck I'll probably get one that does :/

All that would really be needed is a quality PSU that has a capacity of 650W at the most.

However, I do want to speak up on the Corsair HX750 by showing you this:

According to this, it is one of Channel Well Technology's DSG units.

Ah that's a good read, +rep. I think I'll be safe with the HX 750 this time around. I guess greed got the best of me going with the NZXT. I never really see anyone on here with NZXT PSUs, I wonder why -_-. I learned my lesson, gotta stick to quality brands this and next time.

But it's not about brands.  wink.gif  I've seen the HALE82 recommended by the PSU experts on here, so I don't know what to say about it.  Still, sticking to quality brands is one thing, but knowing which PSUs in their line-ups are good and which are bad is better.

By the way, I feel that I'm cheating you by not giving you this:

For a system that only has one 670 in it with the possibility of having just 1 more in the future?

Wait for the new HX to come out, they will be sold as gold rated (instead of being gold rated and sold as silver). The old HX could only do gold under 35c intake temps, so they sold it as silver because Corsair are awesome like that. And Corsair uses, I believe 4 manufacturers for their units, SeaSonic, Flextronics, CWT and (I believe) the odd Delta. The Hale82 is a SeaSonic built unit, while the Hale90 is a superflower built unit. The Hale82 850w actually failed to complete the hot box testing at JG, due to overheating.

I run an Enhance built Silverstone Strider+ 850, and I love it, reliable, quiet, and so on. Go check out Jonny Guru and their reviews on PSUs, and pick one with good reviews there.

I used the crappiest Aspire/Apevia power supply for almost 8 years. Before that I used a "CasEdge" power supply for 6. My parents have been using a Tagan/E-Power for 9 years. I still have the Aspire and CasEdge in my closet and use them both for testing things.

Either I am the luckiest guy on the planet or people take this too seriously. If you buy a quality brand and don't overload it it should last just fine.
