[USAToday]'Battlefield 3' Premium tops 800,000 within first 2 weeks - Page 7

I would love the Close Quarters DLC, since I played metro 99% of the time. I just don't want to drop $50. I also dislike this PS3 and premium crap where you get to play before other people.

Quite an idea to make people pay for stuff that isn't even released yet, if EA goes out of biz before the last DLC is released do I get a refund?

You never know, EA could hire Curt Schilling.

So just buy the close quarters DLC by itself for almost 75% less than $50?

Client-side hit detection is the biggest issue by far but there are numerous issues and bugs in the game that probably ought not be present in the game a mere eight months later. Not to mention people who still have map loading problems, guns that disappear, 'Disconnected from EA Online' in 1/10 connects, etc etc.

But you know, keep on buying 'Premium' because you see it as a 'deal' because you get 'all' the DLC cheaper as a 'package' and hopefully sometime in 2013 you can see your well spent money materialize in 'End Game' or whatever the last package is. I will be pleasantly surprised if the community is as large as it will be when the last DLC package is released in 2013 as it is today.

Again let me say that all of what I point out isn't to detour the game's level of fun, or the really good gameplay I've experience while playing it, or the really excellent but rare level of public-level-teamwork that I've seen. Still, the game at it's core is broken.

Now, continue to appease my laughter while you take my 'figure of speech' and direct at it your continued assault on a 'matter of fact' level. Have fun! See you on the regular Battlefields!

I don't claim BF3 is a perfect game, but I can look past its flaws and enjoy the game for what it is which is loads of fun. There's no such thing as a perfect game. Every one has flaws. It comes down to whether or not you can personally live with them or not.

At that point, it's entirely subjective. Client-side hit detection bothers some more than other. 100% purely subjective.

So far EA is 2/2 in my book. B2K and CQ have been absolutely fantastic additions to the game to me so I have no problem paying for future content in advance.

I do enjoy seeing the haters cry about the game's success. Obviously it's impossible for you to enjoy the game, so the only enjoyment you get it trolling BF3 threads. QQ more.

Oh so they buttered it up.

Basically you have a static location verrifying minimal info as the clients themsleves are doing most of the hit detection. Far from what a PC dedicated server previously was. I have to give it to them as its sure a sneeky way to cut cost in the hosting deparment. Didn't stop server providers from charging full buck though.

CQC is a gigantic let-down because it only succeeds in highlighting further the TERRIBLE delay/hit detection issues the game engine has. Playing at 25ms should be a dream with everything being near-instant right? WRONG, that only applies to other shooters! This is BF3 where even 25ms feels like playing at 700ms. You get shot around cover years after going behind it, shooting people point-blank in the face (and I mean 1 foot apart) with a shotgun somehow "misses" them, you are rewarded for playing at 300ms+ instead of punished, the combat feels sticky and slow, and to top things off you have suppression throwing off your aim around 80% of the time since it's so many players crammed into a tiny map...might as well be playing while holding a sheep against your face.

People who keep saying "omg bf3 has turned into cod" need to someone to slap them awake because bf3 is about as far from cod as it gets, in both good ways AND bad ways (mostly bad) because atleast CoD has a fast and responsive hit detection/cover model and isn't a complete MESS.

At this point BF3 is nothing more than demonstration of what Frostbyte 2 can do...and so far the only thing that engine CAN do is look beautiful while attempting (and failing) to pull off as a first person shooter.

Well with COD you have the basic quake client server netcode being hosted off a "local" xbox or computer. Funny enough, I consider this superior to BF3s methods as there's a main client with set rates (even if they're lower than what they could be on a full dedi).

What sucks is that there's no static location nor the ability to host a large game with a fair bit of players.

the hybrid system is even worse than full blown client side and has cheating problems just as bad. In my opinion its all about cutting costs regardless of how they try to make it sound

thats my biggest gripe about the game, the netcode is just utter garbage which throws any consistant gameplay or skill out the window. People may not notice it as much on consoles because it has less players to sync and that it was built for console in the first place. It was never a PC focused game like they claimed

Also I don't care if they dialed it down, suppression shouldn't even exist on CQC maps because it has no bloody place there and only adds another layer of randomness/luck to the game. Suppressive fire looks good on paper but the way it has been executed/wrenched into gameplay is so stupid it boggles the minid. In CQC maps there is no sense of direction and everyone is spread out everywhere shooting anything that moves in all directions. Everyone is suppressed and aiming at someone with your gun is more of a "guide" that the bullets may or may not decide to take rather than a sure-shot aim.

Atleast Jet/Heli/Tank gameplay is moderately fun, that's all I do nowadays in BF3. Grab a jet and play hero.
