Watercooling CPU & GPU

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

Firstly, let me apologise if this thread already exists, its just o cant find the right answer yet.

ok i have been watercooling my cpu for a couple of years now and have now ordered a waterblock for my gtx 465.

my current order is Pump>CPU>Rad>Res>Pump.

i was thinking of going Pump>GPU>CPU>Rad>Res>Pump or Pump>CPU>GPU>Rad>Res>Pump

my rad is a 240 cooled by 2 x 120mm fans.

is my proposed combination ok?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

As most people will tell you, one 240 rad isn't enough to cool GPU/CPU.

Here's how its running at present

CPU @ 35 - 50 degs (on water)
GFX @ 41 - 75 degs (on air)

I do not intend to overclock anything for now, one of the main reasons for the GFX cooler is to reduce the decibel level the card emits when under load.

Additionally, although my case is nicely sized i am limited for space to provide a home for a second radiator. Will a 120mm rad suffice?

I ended up with the following combination:

Pump > Flow Meter > CPU > GPU > Rad > Res > Pump

CPU idles @ 35 climbing to 55 under load
GPU idles @ 45 climbing to 60 under load

Not bad actually, i did however have to remove the front grill of my case lol.

I might put a 120mm rad just after my CPU to be safe, as i will be SLI'n soon thumb.gif

Any thoughts?

You deff need more radiator for that. What is your ambient temp? Your watercooled CPU should only be like 5-8C over ambient.

Also, the orientation of the loop does not really matter. You only gain like 1C by seperating parts with a radiator. This also makes your loop look a mess.

Motherboard is 43 degs
CPU is 34 degs
GPU is 42 degs

Not sure what you mean by ambient?

So are you saying that I can add a 2nd radiator anywhere?

ambient means your room temperature.

Yes you can add a rad anywhere.

what about this?

http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/Alphacool-NexXxoS-UT60-Full-Copper-240mm-Dual-Radiator-pid-14818.html

It is twice as deep as my current 240, so would that be similar to an additional rad?

Not really. "Rule of thumb" is that you need 1x120mm rad per block.

So you need AT LEAST a 360mm rad for 3 blocks. I run 840mm of rad space (480, 240 and 120) for a CPU and 2 GPU.
