Yeah, I'm still rocking 4GB, I do some amateur video editing, rendering (Autodesk Maya) and mem usage never went above 3~3.5GB.

Well you can go with an i5, like the 3570k.

The only benefit of an i7 is Hyperthreading which isn't needed in games at all... You'd be better off with 4 more powerful cores.
