If you can extend your budget by about P2000, you would be able to get a 670 http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=17920607

Even though its above your budget try and grab a good deal on HD 7950 card. Getting these HD 7950 cards to run at 900 - 950 Mhz on stock volts should be easy. That would put it slightly behind HD 7970. I would say not bad for the price you are getting at.

I don't quite understand how your monitor can go up to 1080p, but some games only support 1680x1050. What do you mean by this?

Are you positive that your monitor is 1080p? You might be running it at 1080p on a 1050p screen for your desktop through nvidia's CP with scaling, but games won't allow that sort of thing usually.

In either case, no matter what you do, you should be gaming at the monitors native resolution. It's the only way to have well defined details, edges and text. Personally I would go for a GPU that can play the games you want on a 1080p monitor, that way you'll have extra FPS headroom for when explosions or physics go nuts at your 1680x1050 res.
