My computer can't find my OS anymore!

Thread Starter
So last night, my apartment lost power then regained it about three times in five seconds.. My wife and I had been in the living room on our laptops, so it didn't really bother us. Then later that night, I went into the office and saw that it looks like my computer had tried to restart. It had a black screen that says there has been a hardware/software change and to fix the problem try repairing my computer with my install disk. Status: 0xc0000225 The Boot selection failed because a device is inaccessible.

So of course first thing I did was turn my pc off then on again. biggrin.gif No dice..

So in my computer repair, it recognizes all of my hdds, but it does not see a windows OS to repair.. I can navigate through all of the folders in my SSD with my OS on it, but it still wont detect the OS.

I make regular backups to my Windows Home Server, but I don't know where those backups are located.. I tried navigating through the folders from a different pc and I can't find them anywhere. THey have to be there somewhere... Any chance anyone here has any ideas?

Open cmd from the Windows 7 CD and type :
Code:
Bootrec /FixMbr
Bootrec /FixBoot
Bootrec /RebuildBcd

Edit: added MBR commands.

Pop in your windows disc and run a repair from there. Probably your MBR got messed up or something.

Also windows Home Server saves everything into a proprietary file format. From a different PC load up the Home Server interface and click restore files on the computer you backed up. You should be able to pull off what you want if needed. Sadly you can't do these things from the home server itself for some stupid reason.

I'm having a similar problem. My error code is 0xc000000f, but we have the same messages. I've tried all those commands already, and I tried fixing it with EasyBCD and it didn't do anything. I'll assume that OP is having the same problems too and it won't fix it. Help!

Sorry if this looks like I'm hijacking your thread in figure we can knock out two birds with one stone if I post here and maybe find a solution faster.

If you tried to fix your MBR and it's still broke, try to run a live linux CD if you got one lying around (like ubuntu), I like to use that as a quick test to tell me what's working and what's not. If you can't get the cd to run live, you'll know not a mobo, ram or other problem. If you can get into the live environment, your know everything is working fine and be sure to try to access your hard drive, if it doesn't mount, then you know you have hard drive problems.

The weird thing is I could boot into safe mode. I used the command prompt from there.

Did you use the bootrec.exe /fixmbr from the windows 7 start disk or in safemode? I don't think you can even do that in safemode...

That is correct. I found that out myself. I then went to the repair my computer thing in the safe mode option screen and tried it.

And I also tried creating a new MBR with EasyBSD (downloaded and installed in safe mode

Ok, I see, well I'm stumped, hopefully someone will know, it's strange that safemode works, only thing I can think of is when in safe mode, look at the device manager and see if anything is flagged with a yellow triangle, if not boot off your windows 7 start disk and try the auto repair. ..sorry dude.

Oh eff.

Auto repair didn't work either. Tried that earlier today. I don't want to restore! But I will if I must. Everything is backed up pretty well.
