New desktop won't turn on, keeps shutting down. I can make it turn on by pressing power again while its in an on phase, but i still get the blue screen error.
I just built this computer from scratch, running an intel 2700k quad core 3.5ghz, gigabyte gtx 670 windforce, 8gigs of RAM, ASUS mobo, 750watt PSU, windows 7 pro-64bit, aftermarket cpu fan (coolermaster 212 i think) and an aftermarket network card. I was playing a game that i had played alot for the past week and the computer shut down, it restarted itself immediately and worked for 10 mins before doing the same thing again, this kept repeating until i received the blue screen and cannot start windows at all, now when i power it on it just keeps looping on, off, on, off, and made a horrible static sound when i tried this last time. i reseated the RAM, and heatsink, (speedfan was showing 90 degrease C but i think it meant fahrenheit because the bios showed 30C and 90F) new thermal paste, nothing worked, i unplugged the power to the GPU and pugged the HDMI into the MOBO and thats when it made the sound with a blank screen, no BIOS even. (this might be because i left the GPU in the MOBO?) I have no idea what the issue is, i am running this as a gaming comp so i had been plying a lot of games with no issues, skyrim was what i was playing when it crashed and i had been adding lots of mods to it that some act as plugins for the game, but could this really cause an issue with the startup? I could change to the stock heatsink and fan but they seem to be working fine, i had it turned up high and was dong 1000rpm at rest, the case has good ventilation and it doesn't seem to be overheating at all. My PSU could be defective? Or not strong enough? I have no idea. If it was a MOBO short 1 how could i tell, 2 is it permanent damage. I seated the heatsink in better, was a little lose, but that obviously didn't help. What should i do? (oh, case is a corsair obsidian 650d) i have a really old PSU, i think its 600-650 watts, should i plug it in and see if it works? or would i not get that screen from a power supply? Please help, i have no idea whats wrong and this was a lot of money for me to spend.
Also, could i have put too much pressure on my CPU when i was tightening the heatsink? it was already in and working so i didn't think so, and its not what caused the first crash anyway. Just replaced the heatsink with the stock one and its still not working.
Maybe i should mention that im booting from an SSD and most of my files are in a HDD. And my PSU is plugged into a surge protector that has 5 or so other things in it, but i cant see this being the issue due to the fact that it worked for a month.
However i should clarify the Temp readings, BIOS said 30C and 90F when the computer was just turned on, the within the time from exiting BIOS and starting windows, and opening speedfan, it showed 90C, this is why i assumed it actually meant 90F because it hadn't been that long, and i assumed that it couldn't heat up an extra 60C in that time. These readings are normal for the month ive had this thing running, could it have really been too hot all along and i burned out the CPU?
Any help would be appreciated. thank you.
