Need help with deciding on a budget home theatre system from B&M stores

Hey guys, I currently have a Frankenstein HTIB system that I have had for a few years, which sounds good but just doesnt hold up to what I need it for anymore. I just recently bought a new TV, and now require a receiver with HDMI, and a few other input and output options. Im fairly limited with my current unit.

I would like to pick up these items locally, and unfortunately the only place that really sells receivers around here is Best Buy, so that is were I will be looking.

Would it be better to get a cheaper receiver and get speakers piece by piece? Or should I go with a receiver based HTIB?

I have been looking at these items locally, im not too sure to their quality, or performance, but I do know that generally speaking you do get what you pay for.

Essentially im just looking for something that is better than what I have, and that could be pretty much anything at this point. A simple $200 Bluray player HTIB would be better than what I have at the moment lol.

Is Bestbuy the ONLY option? Since you're kinda gonna get screwed since they always carry the newest models as well as a price premium. Getting a system piece by piece is almost always better than a budget HTiB. However, for your case, a 5.1 Onkyo HTiB might work well.

Thank you for the insight. Perhaps going piece by piece would be the best option. If I do go that route, I wouldn't mind picking up speakers on craigslist, or from an e-tailer. Its the receiver im most concerned with in terms of buying locally.
Unfortunately, it seems that no one carries a Onkyo HTIB, save BJ's, and that's with Bose speakers at a $700 price point. I may just hold on a while longer and see if anything goes on sale locally.
