recommendation for a new video card

Thread Starter
i currently have a radaeon 6870, only bought it at the time cause i already spent so much on the build already.

have a budget on max of $500.

the one im currently looking at is this one.

EVGA 04G-P4-2673-KR GeForce GTX 670 4GB Superclocked Video Card - 4GB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0, DVI-D, DVI-I, HDMI, Display Port, DirectX 11, Superclocked

$489.99

thoughts on this one?

the machine is being used for games, and a lot of video encoding.

I say this or this one.

I'd go with a non ref cooler for noise and heat although these new 28nm cards run like ice cubes. Any reason you went for the 4gb model instead of a 2? 2GB is plenty for multi monitor let alone the 3gb in the 7950. Looks like you are on a single display setup.

btw, the gigabyte card may look ugly from its retail pictures but once installed it actually looks pretty cool, I have the 7870. thumb.gif

MSI is 3 year serial based warranty vs. 2 year (must have proof of purchase) on a Sapphire, cooler is better design on MSI, plus it's $20 cheaper. No brainer\

Just noticed the Sapphire is clocked 70MHz slower as well. 810 vs 880.

$20 cheaper!? Whoa rolleyes.gif .After couple of years he might be ready to buy another gpu. Besides, Sapphire GPUs are built to last beyond 3 years. As far as the Sapphire being clocked slower, OCing will take care of that wink.gif Like I said, MSI is cool but Sapphire is better (w/ the exception for the MSI Lightning series) whistle.gif

Either of the (3) GPUs that was mentioned will make you smile, take your pick. I would also suggest you consider ASUS as well smile.gif

I have the asus GTX 670 Direct CU OC bla bla one, and I must say I cant be more happy. The backplate is sexy, it looks completely amazing with my sabertooth z77 and i cant hear it at all over the h100 fans, even with the fan profile set very agressive. I plan on buying a second one for SLI as soon as I save the cash, and have recomended this card to all my friends.
