it depends on the use. if its going to be a media drive, for movies and pics and stuff, i'd say WD green 3TB, and save some electricity. but if you're looking for speed/performance WD black 2TB.

P.S. don't buy seagate drives unless you back up your data

Samsung Spinpoints are usually the most recomended drives on the site, unless there is a large price difference

There is nothing wrong with Seagate.

3TB Seagate (ST3000DM001) one read and write speed are up to 175mb/sec. This is way faster than my WD Caviar Black which it can only top 125mb/sec.

Don't listen to those 6Gbps marketing. All the spinning HDD can't even saturate 3Gbps yet. 3Gbps is 250mb/ sec...

helloo.... =/

I would buy another ST3000DM001 in a heartbeat if I need more room later.

Seagate bought Samsung so now crappier parts are used to make them. In addition, they now only carry a one year warranty.

personally, i'd recommend Hitachi, Samsung, or WD, before considering Seagate. I've had nothing but problems with Seagate, but that's just me. Others can say what they want, but i'd go with WD Black for speed AS WELL AS reliability

If this is true, i'd stay away from Samsung then as well.... Sorry, I haven't dealt with Samsung drives in awhile.

go WD

I've never had issues with Seagate. My current one is rock solid, and I have an 8 year old 80gb Seagate that still works.

My last WD drives died consecutively. I had a 500gb that went out on me, and after dealing with their customer service (which is pretty terrible) they replaced it with a 640gb drive that died 2 weeks later. Then my old 160gb WD that had nothing but movies died the same week.
