which harddrive you recommend the most? - Page 4

I just bought 20x WD30EZRX to add to my existing 53TB of WD Green drives. They are great, i've had like 3 failures with a large sample size running for about 3 years. WD warranty is also second to none from my experiences.

Yes, the greens are slower but they use less power and are much quieter. That what you want to look for with a storage drive.

When my seagate raid0 failed I lost my 2TB movie collection, not that I was super upset about that but what really made me angry was I couldn't RMA the drives as the "serial no was not found" and then if I tried RMAing one it would glitch up anyway

WD support is the best I've ever seen, free upgrades sometimes and quick turnaround. Even honored my warranty when the UPS store messed up the packaging. thumb.gifthumb.gif

Well, there aren't more drives than the ones I listed because they only list drives with more than 5% RMA.

I have great experience with western digital so I always go for WD. Black for fast read/write and green for some power saving.

Welcome to ocn, lol.

The only manufacturer i could actually recommend is Samsung, that's not to say I think others are crap, but I have first hand experience of how good they can be.

Saying that, i've got 5 seagates, 5 samsungs, and 2 WDs. The only one i've had fail is a samsung but that's because I killed it with heat.

+1 for Seagate great drives never had problems with them , my second choice would be Samsung or Hitachi.

Had a Haitachi, Maxtor, Samsung, Seagate and Western Digital all fail on me.

Currently have a Western Digital, Samsung and Seagate in my rig.
In other words, there really isn't one inherit brand for reliability.

I had Seagate 1.5 TB on which i broke both power and data connectors which caused my PSU to shut down sometimes and would take massive amount of improvisation to work yet i was using it like that for over a year and it refused to die !
It's still operational today if you go through the hassle of connecting it , real trooper that drive thumb.gif

My vote goes for WD. I've never had issues with their drives. I see comments on greens and blacks, but no blues? The blues are probably the best value. If you have some extra cash to burn, the blacks are obviously better. If you are thinking RAID at all... steer clear of the greens.

Maybe the blacks are better now, but I remember the WD 640 Blue AAKS and Black AALS performed so near that sometimes the blue were faster and sometimes the black were faster.

I bought all 3 of my AAKS before the Black/Blue nomenclature

500 gig aaks (was the fastest 500 gig wd had at the time), and 2 x 640 aaks (once again when released was the fastest hd wd had, before the 1 tb were released and were faster than the 750 gigs)
