I was reading several sites and forums last night looking for an upgrade from my on-board Realtek. I do a little bit of everything, gaming, music and movies. I made the decision to go with the Xonar DX. At $72 it is a decent price. The install was straight forward for the most part. Had to reroute some cables. Win 7 x64 couldn't find drivers, which I expected. Downloaded some unified ones installed, rebooted and installed the ASUS utility for the card, setup the speakers and threw on a movie. Wow what a difference. I am really impressed and can HEAR what I was missing. I couldn't be happier.
