flashing the 7970 vbios/7970 owners may want to read this - Page 2

well with the stock bios the clock was 925 and v was 1050 and with this its 1000 and 1085 while its not a significant improvement in the exact clock and volt the fact the the voltage now maintains 1085 with no drops at all is the improvement and that is significant when the last vbios had the voltage jumping all over the place and it would cause the card to freeze up and crash and have all kinds of problems

NOTE: the kind of "all over the place" im talking about is the voltage would drop to 0850 and sometimes 0500 then the clock would drop with it then when the clock went back up it went before the voltage sometimes and im sure you can guess what happens when the clock hits 925 and the voltage is still at 0500

Sorry to dig this up, but I'm having the same issue you had. I can get to 1150 but then it starts becoming unstable because of the low voltage... Can you tell me where you got your DC2T firmware so I can grab it. I'd really appreciate it, I hate not being able to move the voltage a bit in Afterburner.

i got it off the techpowerup database http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?page=1&architecture=ATI&manufacturer=Asus&model=HD+7970&interface=&memSize=0
but just so you know the DC2 (not dc2t) is hardware locked for voltage so its pretty much impossible to adjust the voltage without either a hardware mod or a hotwire motherboard.

well theres this little switch next to the crossfire connectors, on mine i flipped it and started the computer up again and magically all the problems stopped and hwmonitor showed the voltsge hitting 1.17 which is pretty normal and alot better than the 1.08 it wouldnt go over before may or may not help you but hey give it a shot the 2nd dvi-d bios might just magically help yours like it did mine. i can oc to about 1185 stable, and by the way at least with mine after i flipped the switch both bios's started being stable and going up to 1.17 its the weirdest thing, and totally worth a shot thumb.gif

why would you replace a 7970 with a gtx anything? just wondering the GPGPU performance of the 7970 is about 50% higher than even the 690 while it might be very slightly lower in games by just a few fps, it has a gig more vram with far more core performance for applications. i mean i use mine for both apps and games and web browsers and everything also use the slight bit of gpgpu acceleration here and there and the 680 is about equal to the HD 5770 for gpgpu application performance as sad as that is

I dunno what yall have done, but that switch is supposed to control the DVI port, switching it between single and dual link modes.

yes but its also two different vbios's and for some reason when you do that the voltage limit lets up a little and the card becomes more stable, no clue why but it does

i know theres no reason it should magically fix anything or do anything else besides switch to dvi dual link and back but it does and it seems to magically stabilize the card, i was having all kinds of problems till i did this and they all went away.
i really am not sure why but hey the results speak for themselves it works

i know theres no reason it should magically fix anything or do anything else besides switch to dvi dual link and back but it does and it seems to magically stabilize the card, i was having all kinds of problems till i did this and they all went away.
i really am not sure why but hey the results speak for themselves it works

Interesting. Check your vrm temps on one bios vs the other. Asus was supposed to fix the temp reporting (bios) issue but in doing so fixed one and broke another. Maybe there are two separate bios' or maybe not?? Did you flash on for ex. setting 1, then on a whim switch to setting 2?
