How well can it emulate ps2/wii games?

Getting my Sleekbook around July 12th.

How are temps full load? You should try to replace the thermal grease and report back results rolleyes.gif

Haven't checked on temps yet. That's next on my list.

Seriously, anyone expecting stellar results from this thing are going to be disappointed. This is a mid-level budget solution. It's not an enthusiast laptop. I got it because I'm A) broke and B) a sucker for new technology. The thing that does impress me about this laptop is that the battery life is massive compared to other competing $600 solutions. That's not usually something you get at this price point.

Also, you guys remember that abysmal memory score that Trinity got in WEI? Well...

204

Much better than the preview, that's for sure. It looks like the memory controller may actually be trinity's best asset.

Read my post above.

It's a decent, low-end solution. For what it is, I think AMD nailed it. The system is very responsive, it's cheap, it plays games decently, and it gets great battery life. It's a good all-around system for the price.

Also, I'm not let down at all. It's just a little ironic that my quad core from nearly 3 years ago is still virtually twice as fast as this laptop. I know intel has caught up in that department, but I got this laptop because I wanted some light gaming as well. Again, for $600, the value this solution offers is hard to match. There isn't a single Ivy Bridge quad core w/ HD 4000 graphics on a laptop that costs even close to $600. Since that is the case, AMD has "run over intel" in the area of integrated graphics and the associated value of their solution.

To sum up, if you want a really good CPU, intel is the only way to go. If you want a decent integrated graphics solution, AMD is a little better than intel on performance and A LOT better than intel on value/price. That's where I think AMD got it right.

Not bad, but above $550 for a 15" A10 seems like a hard sell. I'd rather see some 13-14" laptops maybe for $600, otherwise it's just too close to what an A8 + discrete graphics will cost.

See.. http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-Pavilion/A3H21AV?HP-Pavilion-dv6z-7000-Entertainment-Notebook-PC

$625 with an A8-4500M and AMD 7730M graphics. Even if it doesn't Crossfire with 7730M, you can use the 7730M for playing newer games, and switch to integrated for older games and basic use. Haven't seen gaming benches for the 7730 but it's just 10% behind the 640M in 3DMark11. So, I'd wager the dv6z w/ 7730M and A8 is the best bang/buck laptop for gaming.

The issue with the GT640 and HD 7730 is that they probably use an average of about 10-20 watts of power on top of the 35-watt TDP of the APU. That means you either need a bigger battery, or you will probably lose your overall mobile usage.

Again, an APU is not meant to be a power solution. It's meant to be a highly usable mobile platform that isn't a netbook, ultrabook, or tablet. Right now, I've been using my computer for internet browing for the last 30 minutes. My battery is at 94%, and the meter says I still have 8 hours and 15 minutes of power left.... yes, that's 8 hours of battery. No, I'm not playing a game, and I'm not watching a lot of videos, but my wife's old Turion II dual core at roughly the same clock speed gets an average of about 3 hours of usage doing the same thing I'm doing right now, which is web browsing and other light tasks.

Also, I configured that HP laptop to be identical to mine. It's EXACTLY $600, the same price as mine. With a 7730 GPU, it's an additional $75, and that is outside my budget.

If you find a laptop that's cheaper than this one and comes with better specs, that's great. This really is nice for what it is. thumb.gif

I said A8-4500M and 7730M, that puts the price at $625. The CPU difference between A8 and A10 is about 10%, which is pretty negligible. A10-4600M by itself is fine, but going with discrete graphics won't cost you any battery life when you're using integrated only (Nvidia Optimus and AMD switchable graphics automatically switch to discrete for gaming). So going with just the integrated graphics is only beneficial if you want the highest gaming battery life. Really it's a small tradeoff if you'd be gaming plugged in most of the time.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fine system for $600 with A10 only. But A8 and 7730M adds about 30%+ in gaming performance, for a $25 premium. I thought there was something in the OP about not finding a laptop that matches the value of what you got - the dv6z with 7730M and A8 is one that far surpasses it. As a budget gaming laptop, the choice is obvious. For gaming on battery though, APU-only is the best option.

Correct about the bold. I don't think 30% is in game fps increase tho...And not having a discrete card allow for ultrabooks biggrin.gif:D:D I'm just excited for my Sleekbook, so yeah my opinion is biased tongue.gif
