Making the Big Decision - Page 5

I think a part of the reason why my keycaps still look good is because I type gently so that I don't bottom out.  When I do bottom out, it's gentle.  I think that if I were to press harder on each keystroke, then my keys would wear faster.

I think we decided that the Leopolds were undesired because of the cherry stabilizers. They created a more mushy feeling. We want costar stabilizers, correct?

OK, so it's come down to another two, that I'm pretty sure I want. I've decided to go with Cherry MX Black Switches. The two keyboards I want to go with are:

Filco Majestouch-2, Tenkeyless FKBN87ML/EB2

OR

Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire Rapid SGK-4000-GKCC1

This is my first mechanical keyboard, and I want it to count. I want this puppy to last me +6 years on +4 hours a day of usage. I want quality, and I want a nice clean look. Basically, I want the Filco, but I have such a hard time justifying 2x the price. Someone, convince me.

Filco is the way to go for a nice clean look. The CM Storm isn't even an option for cleanliness. Plus, if you decide to resell it for a different keyboard in the future, the Filco will retain its value much better than the CM Storm.

Are the CM Storm QuickFire and the Filco both ABS pad-printed keycaps? Or is there any advantage for either one in that region? Can't seem to find those specifications anywhere.

I believe the CM Storm is laseres & infilled. Filco I think is the same...at least my camo is lasered & infilled. Filco keycaps are coated with some type of UV hardcoat protectant. It makes the keycap last a little longer. Honestly, you shouldn't base your decision off of keycap quality because you will either: A) replace them with higher quality keycaps (ie. doubleshots, PBTs, etc.) or B) shine them up in a year anyways.

A good mechanical keyboard should easily last 10+ years, and you're looking at good boards.  smile.gif
