Not really, show me another consumer laptop with that resolution. That makes it unbelievable.

Besides, if you dislike playing at that fps (which many would), you can easily get 45+fps at half-native res (1440*900) with AA.

Nope, you would be using pixel doubling as an advantage so things look like they would at a non-retina screen. So not unbelievably sharp, but not stretched or altered in any other way. Of course, you wouldn't be taking full advantage of the screen. But it's an option.

So basically, you're saying it's perfectly acceptable to run something similar to..

1080i.

You're kidding, right? This is Overclock.net. Where people strive to get the most of their machines. Since when did mediocre performance, or not being able to fully utilize your hardware's potential become the norm?

The problem here is that you're getting 20fps when nothing happens... Start shooting, get some explosions on the screen etc. and the fps drops to very much unplayable frame rates. Run the JC2 concrete jungle (or whatever the name of the bench in that city area is) bench and check your fps.

That's way too high for a 15 inch laptop.

Laptops have never been (and will never be for quite some time) the perfect gaming machines. Even if their performance is not mediocre, they will cost a fortune and a desktop a third of its cost will still have better performance.

If you think that you can find a machine with 220ppi 15" screen, with the best CPU performance, the best GPU performance, the best RAM and the best disk performance all while being light quiet and portable, you're dreaming.

The point is to find the laptop of your needs at a proper price, with the smallest amount of sacrifices.

That was a heavy bench (in comparison to the average gameplay fps): I got average 15.18fps. I did see rare dips to 9fps though.

I find that laughable if you've bought a Mac.

For Price, desktops will always be king, but there are still better alternatives to the rMBP. And speaking of fortunes, the rMBP itself costs a small fortune. I'm sure that a Sager with the similar configuration, processor and GPU would cost half of what they're asking for the rMBP. Now, going towards the pricerange of the rMBP, about $2200 would net you.

3610QM and a GTX 675m (Which should be about equal to GTX 560 levels of performance.)

Then again, I forgot that most people buying macs don't care about the specs.

Sure, it would be heavy (Not a problem. What are you, a sissy, can't even lift 5 pounds.), not have as much batteries (not battery life. Macs cheat by hiding their "true battery size" under the unibody.) as the Mac would but, it still would be one hell of a machine to enjoy modern games with. And with that, the thickness, it also allows for upgradable graphics and most of all.

You can use it on your lap. Unlike some thin laptops that have this habit of roasting nuts. thumb.gif

Oh. By the way.

PPI isn't everything. TN panels need to go.

You do realize there are cities in JC2. That "benchmark" is actually a part of the map. So you're okay with getting 10-20 FPS in that section of the map? Sounds perfectly enjoyable.

Well, actually, I look at the specs (can't speak for other people). Sure, you get a 40% GPU (which is important for some people). But with the rMBP you get the sharpest screen, with one of the best contrast ratios. You also get great battery life and portability, which is incredibly important for me. Why would I want a two times heavier and thicker laptop with fourth of the battery life? I want a portable device, since I carry it to 5-6 hours of lectures a day. And I want it to be powerful enough that when I travel (back home for example) I have a decent machine with me.

The rMBP meets my needs much better than a $2000 sager.

I played JC2 in its entirety (very good game imo) and yes I know about the cities. But during the few missions there, it's rare you look at such a vast scenery in most cases. And even then the faster timelapse will not be there.
