~$250 for a GPU (Figuring out if it would be worth it to upgrade from a GTX 460) - Page 4

The 7850 is a great choice, (I use a 7950) but to answer your question. No, you do not need to reinstall the drivers, but go on the AMD website and download the newest drivers for the 7000 series (12.6). I do not recommend using the install disk. Also, if you want to OC I would use MSI Afterburner.

Be sure you uninstall the old Nvidia drivers also!

I'd say buy this http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-PCI-Express-Graphics-11200-00-20G/dp/B007JCNOZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341189892&sr=8-1&keywords=7850

Sapphire is a great brand and I had the 6950 with this cooler and it works VERY well and is much better then ref. cooling.

There is no need as most drivers nowadays erase any others that you might have, but it wouldn't hurt. There are some tools to delete drivers though, but i don't know any right now as i prefer to do it thew hard way tongue.gif

Didn't turn out to be the case by my browsing, each card from my list(not company specific mind you, that'd be silly) turned up anywhere between 20$-50$ more on amazon with the exception of the 480 which came out the same. The more I think of this topic, the more I come to this conclussion, you can go with a grimy last last gen w/ crazy heat and power consumption(either a new 460 for sli or a 480), or you could get a newer product(7850) that prolly performs similarly and will keep temps and power consumption down. That's not even a decision in my book.

If you want to buy off ebay, you're entering a world of used/refurb cards which comparing value is pointless as prices fluctuate literally by minute.

Currently yes, they are more expensive. But I have a gift card and free shipping. I hate the fact Newegg charges you if they send you a DOA product, or defective in any other way. That's not right. Amazon pays for it if it came dead, or might have been there fault. I love that.

Grimy last gen? Nah, it's still a great card, just not for me! As for eBay prices, agreed. But they are usually less. I would stick to ASUS or MSI if I bought off of ebay, as I would still have a warranty (I would contact the buyer to double check). If not, and they said it would, money back.

XFX any good? I've heard... Good and bad things about them.

Totally missed this post, sorry. I actually did consider all of these things. The SLI isn't going to happen because of my motherboard (not compatible, I checked)
I decided that the 660 is too far out. I could have stuck with my 460, but you know moar preformanceeeee. I guess. I just wanted a boost.
Thanks!

All things considered, you have to go amazon :/ , 480 was the only reasonable card on there site.

Well. If it's 50 dollars cheaper on Newegg. And I have a 50 dollar gift card... They cancel out. So I want to know how XFX is, if it has good customer support, ETC. But the cooling isn't as good on that card... Hmmm. I think I'll buy an MSI (Serial Based warranty, good support?) or an ASUS. From Newegg if it has to be, I'll save up a bit more.

XFX used to be good, back in their Nvidia days, and even honored my RMA of my 9400 GT, considering i don't live in the U.S. I haven't bought a single card from them since then (nothing wrong against AMD but i prefer Nvidia) but i have had a couple friends who do, and they're still going strong. But i've also heard a lot of hate against them because they cheapen out stuff or reduce warranties.

Personally, right now i would go with a brand like MSI or Asus, but in my eyes, XFX is still good.
