Newbie trying to build a rig, need assistance and advice

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm relatively new to not only overclock but computers in general. I'm currently using a macbook pro, but decided to get a decent desktop for casual gaming (think skyrim on medium-high) and lots of media storage. (lots of music and movies)

I've been advised by some friends about sandy bridge and was linked - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

Here's where I need the assistance, I really have no idea what else I really need for a running computer.

I only have a budget of around $500-900 so any advice on quality bargains and essentials I need would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

That build looks great, but I'd ditch the antec 900. The interior is unpainted and it doesn't have many cable management options. Why not opt for something a little more modern, such as the Phantom 410?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146085
It's got a lot more room for cables and will keep the build looking cleaner, and the interior is nice and painted providing for a much cleaner looking PC.

It also has rotated hard drive bays making them easier to install(although the plastic mounts can be a pain sometimes), and the 5.5" bay clips are really nice to use. Not to mention the NZXT has a cutout to access the rear of the motherboard easily, making it simple to install an aftermarket cooler. Once you opt for a more builder-oriented case, you will not regret it. Also of note is NZXT's customer service. We all know that it's never a fun experience and we don't want to think about needing to deal with a defective or missing component(and it shouldn't happen to you), but their customer service is amazing and they are active with the community.

The Antec 900 was an excellent case for it's time, and I won't deny that. It was once excellent for the the budget gamer, but it is a bit lacking now that a few more companies have stepped up the the plate. If the Phantom 410 isn't your thing, there are many other options from multiple different manufacturers. If you tell us a bit more about what you are looking for, we can probably find something a bit better to fit your interests and budget.

I would agree with that I like the look of that case better.smile.gif

I'd love any other suggestions, especially if there is a better option for the price.

Also if it is difficult to install it would probably be best far away from me haha.

DO NOT get an Antec 900. I bought mine, looked great, but installing and removing parts are the BIGGEST pain the arse ever. BLEH.

this ^ ill give you a lil input as well in a moment

a 550ti isnt going to do what you want.

edit, also is every item needed? do you have monitor, keybord, or mouse?
