fx4100 vs i3-2100 is more of if he'll overclock or not. Imo, the i3 is better gaming out of the box and it will let him upgrade to a better spec 1155 in the future, which in my opinion is better than a bulldozer(not sure about the next gen though). If he'll be encoding or overclocking though, the fx4100 is a much better choice than the i3.
My main consideration was the mobo, I've dealt with h61's and hated them. They have no future. 970 will give him crossfire capability and just general stability(will they have next gen fx support(piledriver)). OC is something to consider too.

So yeah, I think we, the two of us, can come to a conclusion on this. If at any point in the future he plans to oc or go crossfire, go with the fx 4100+970. If he doesn't plan to do such things go, i3+h61. Fair nough?

Ultimately, I stick behind jvkua's build but with the corsair 500w w/ promo code and the memory promo code(not sure if you can add that to the website thingy).
