Evga 7800 GS CO AGP pipelines?

post #1 of 70
Thread Starter
i've got rivatuner, the most recent. been picking through all the settings. and in the NVstrap, i have 16/6 vertex and pixel pipelines, tho, i can technically check the rest, upping it to 24/8
i've read the PCIe 7800 has 24 pipelines, and the agp version had them reduced. but they have a warning about activating pipelines, and wanted an opinion before i try it.

anyone?

It's worth a try, but bench the card before and after. An AGP card has limited bandwidth, so the unlocked pipes may not affect the performance, outside of possibly making the card unstable.

I've heard that the 7800GS's are 7800gt's that had defective pipes coming off the line, so its most likely that the pipes you unlock are defective and will cause video problems.

I thought recent AGP cards are locked completely, as in the broken/untested pipes are laser cut. I've never heard of anyone unlocking a 7800GS to 20 or even 24 pipes. Correct me if i'm wrong...

i havent either. but im getting low scores in AM3. 53k with any driver i try. i know people say my cpu is limiting, but i really doubt that, as there are many benchmarks on the web with slower CPU's than mine with higher scores

~~~~ edit
yeah i know tehy are locked. the reason im asking is i KNOW i can tick the check box in riva, but i dont know it will actually DO something lol. i dont mind trying, but what do you think the risk factor is? i dont care enough to have to buy a new card
It will mess up your graphics if you unlock defective pipes, you can usually fix it by locking them again, but then again there is really no point trying to unlock that card since I am 99% sure they are all defective 7800GTs.
I have a 7800 and I can't unlock any pipes so.....ya, they are most likely laser cut.
Mine is 60k. 7800 GS @ 460ish / 1400ish (I can't remember)
Im gonna do a volt mod with some custom cooling sooner or later to really see what this card could do. I think 550 core and 1600+ mem.
