Intel Core i5 3570K $245
MSI Z77A-GD80 Motherboard with Thunderbolt $305
G.Skill Ripjaws Z F3-2400C10D-8GZH 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 $124
Corsair HX-650 Power Supply $129
MSI Radeon HD7950 3GB Overclocked $429
Crucial M4 SSD 64GB $99
Already have an ft02 w/out air penetrator fans because it's 2 or so years old, a noctua nh-u12p which i'll need to get 1155 brackets for, and a mildly damaged 1080p monitor(, hopefully i can replace that one day soon).
I like the mobo for the layout, looks and features. It is pretty expensive but should oc well.
I've been told ram doesn't offer much of a real performance boost.. but if not why even sell ram above 1600mhz? If it's true i can drop those 2400mhz ripjaws for some 1600 and save >$50. Although the ram i've listed also claims full z77 compatibility. Not sure if that makes any difference, but in the past i've had ram that would not run at rated specs because of this. (I bought 1066mhz ddr2 ram that never worked on my motherboard, all oc's on core2 being with the fsb didn't make things easier.)
Also i can get trident for exactly the same price. The only difference seems to be the cooler.
Not sure about the 7950. I could get a 7870 with a better cooler (quieter, although the fortresses 3 180mm fans aren't exactly quiet anyway) for less $$.
The hx650 seemed to be priced well for a modular. I'll need to buy properly sleeved extensions though, the cable on it are ugly. I'm assuming 650w will be enough with an average oc. I won't be adding another 7950 (not in the next 2 years) and i don't think any other devices I could add in the future would draw much.
Uses include gaming, solving the mysteries of the universe & all the usual stuff.
It adds up to 1.3k, can't go over that. But I guess I'm wondering if anything I've chosen is reasoned wrong. If money has been assigned well to each component. If i can save money etc.
