Radeon 7970 GHX edition, or GTX 680 for Physx

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm really split. I hear that the 7970 GHX gets slightly better performance than the reference GTX 680 card, so, what exactly should I get? Is physx worth it? Would love to hear multiple thoughts on this, so please do respond.

Too close to call. I enjoy physx but the performance would be appreciated. Ultimately if your using 3 monitors or higher res then 7970 otherwise 680.

If you dont mind the heat and high power consumption and noise the ghz edition is slightly faster in some games . Here's a good in depth review

A question you're gonna be asked is: do you plan to overclock?

Get a Radeon HD 7970 OC card. these cards will do 1125 - 1150 Mhz at stock volts and even higher if you want with voltage OC. the good cards are Sapphire HD 7970 OC, Gigabyte HD 7970 OC windforce, MSI HD 7970 Lightning. thumb.gif

You can run the Radeon 7xxx with a Geforce 450 GTS for physX. I never think of PhysX but from what I understand it's working only on NVIDIA video cards and on the cpu but on the cpu it's much, much slower. Hence buying a Geforce makes sense for noobs?

Sorry for the rather late response,
To be 100% honest I'm new in the custom PC ring. I built my first one last year and when I tried to OC had 0 idea of what I was doing, so I quite literally green screened at least 4 times. So, I guess if it increases performance significantly then yeah I will OC.

definitely overclocking HD 7970 increases perf. and increasing at stock voltage in AMD CCC is as easy as it can get. Only voltage OC requires little bit of experience.

Honestly both are neck and neck give or take a few fps (which you will not notice guaranteed). Just pick the one you like better and enjoy your card!
