Recent Boot up issues, please help

Thread Starter
So recently I have been overclocking and tweaking the hell out of my cpu, trying to get a stable 5ghz... I went from a stable 4.8 overclock on an H60 p/p to a 5ghz overclock with an h100 in a p/p sitting infront of a window A/C unit blowing right on the radiator. I'm getting some great temps and I ran prime 95 blend for 12 hours with no errors or freezes or anything, but I've also had to hardboot my pc a ton of times because of all the freezes that I got trying to get it just right, and now a new problem emerges:

my PC tends to fail booting up frequently. I'll press the power button, and the lights and fans turn on, but the monitor never wakes up and the bios is never shown, it just stays like that forever, so I have to hard boot it again, and then sometimes i press the power button and it turns on then off then on again and never shows bios, so another hardboot, and then ussually the 2nd or 3rd time it will work

Also, when my pc was on the ground my feet were always right behind it and i could feel a lot of hot air coming out of the power supply, now ive had it on a table infront of a window a/c unit i just felt back there and I dont feel any air coming out of it at all

Have you confirmed that your power supply's fan is still running? Either way, you might want to consider an upgrade. According to Newegg's Power Supply Calculator, your system requires 739W. And that calculation doesn't take your overclock into account. I've seen a heavy overclock on a 2500k add another 80W to the total power draw. Your 750W power supply may not be up to the task.

I have keyed in a more specific wattage calculator, with all overclocks and ssd and all my fans and everything and it calculates 630 watts, im sure newegg just adds more unnecessary wattage for extra safety. Afterall newegg calculator calls it a "recomended wattage" of 750ish, which is what i have.

Since this issue happens so frequently for you, try temporarily removing one of your 680's. If the problem goes away, then you need more power. smile.gif

That's normal with overclocks, learn more on the Sandy Stable Club to see what else you may have to do to have it post right & everytime.

Also, it's not out of the realm of possibility that your 2500k just can't consistantly post at 5Ghz. If the booting problem's were there before this OC, it could be a number of things, like the motherboard & memory.

The above PSU input is preposterous. The Hale82 750 will deliver enough wattage to a 2500k/GTX 680 SLI system no matter what you do to it, unless it's faulty, but it doesn't sound like it.

Computer problems rarely go away on their own. If they began occurring when you overclocked, then further tweaking may be required.

Preposterously,
