Gpu scaling issue with 12.6?

Thread Starter
So after I installed the 12.6 drivers I have been getting a problem with scaling issue in AMD Control Center. After every reboot, I get black bars around my screen and after about 30 seconds without me touching the scaling options it automatically goes back to normal. headscratch.gif

been getting the same issue, thinking of reverting to 12.4 driver but havn`t had the time to try it yet, the issue is present in the beta version as well 12.7, after reboot or startup, no scalling, once I open ccc or wait for about a minute it scales fine.

I have had the beta drivers for both 12.6 then 12.7 for a while now and never had this problem till just today when I reinstalled my OS. :/ now it's annoying. Ill let ya know if I figure out how I got it working like last time but I'm still waiting for someone to reply with a good answer myself.winksmiley02.gif

EDIT: I used 12.7 beta with below solutions and it fixed it. Also works on 12.6 tested that as well.

***SOLUTION***

Option 1. (Not guarnteed but did work for me and others)
- Have multiple monitors or another output plugged into your GPU. Doesn't have to be in use just make sure its plugged in and is recognized by CCC. I have my monitor on a DVI and my HDTV which I toggle on and off for movies etc. And it fixed it right up just plugging it into the HDMI port on my 7970.

Option 2. (Real Fix)
- Type in "regedit" in search and hit enter.
- Navigate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{*Crazy folder name*}\0000
You will see a lot of random folders under ....Control\video[bizzare folder name]\0000... keep opening them till you find the one with the most "stuff" in it or the most ATI files.
- Once you find the right 0000 folder it should be already selected then go to: File, New, Create a new DWORD(32).
- Name it: "DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan" without quotations
- For value leave it at 0 Hexadecimal.
- Click enter. Exit out of regedit.

Look at below post if you need pictures.

Restart your computer and it should work.
Only 2 fixes I can seem to find. Hope it helps somebody!

*Can you be more specific with folder names?

*Is it a subfolder that you create this file in? Its not clear by how you wrote this out if its supposed to be in the 0000 subfolder or not.

*I have 4 folders that have a 0000 subfolder (assuming thats the folder you're talking about) which one is it?

No unfortunately I cannot be more specific, believe me I spelled it out a lot more clearly than anywhere else on the internet haha. Took me a while to figure out myself with peoples terrible explination. Ill fix it in the above post as well to try to make it more clear but just look at the pictures I post here and they should clarify it for you. That may not be the exact folder on your computer as it is in mine so don't try to duplicate whats in the pic. As I said it is the one with the most "stuff" or ATI files in it. Keep looking under each folder with 0000 and see which one has "ATI, OpenCL, etc." Keywords like that that lets you know it is the right folder where your display files are located. As you can see it is the only folder under ....Controlset\Control\Video\*CrazyFolderName*\0000 with a full list of files.

Yes then you do just follow the steps, it does go under the 0000 folder since I was explaining it in steps. Not any subfolder. Here is the exact location of mine, under the same location as the above picture.

Hope that helps! biggrin.gif

Doing the DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan in regedit actually messed up my GPU monitor gadget and now it will only detect that it's ATI and not show any stats. Kinda sucks. If anyone knows a fix for this it would be much appreciated. I can't monitor my GPU anymore :/ I know there are one's online you can download but I like the gadget version since it's always up, runs on startup, and can be displayed on top of all windows.blushsmiley.gif

Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to do that. Much easier for a numbskull like me to grasp now.

It's no problem at all. Glad you got it all straightened out.
