H100 suddenly dead, contemplating modding

Thread Starter
So my h100 controller decided to die on me all of the sudden. It had been working for 6 months with no problems. Anyway I am wondering if anyone has tried running the pump of the mobo rather than using the controller. I popped the panel of the pump and it uses a standard 3 pin plug so would it not be possible to run the pump off a motherboard fan plug.

I am assuming it would work just fine. Since it would only be powering the pump, I doubt it would draw enough current to damage the mobo.

Well I tried it and It seems to be working fine with the pump at roughly 2100 rpm and no noticeable pump noise.
