Is the 60D Still worth its value? I'm thinking about purchasing one

Is the Canon 60D Still worth purchasing? They got it on Newegg for 899 for the body and I'm really considering it. I still got enough left on my gift card to spend so I figure I'll grab a new toy, then I saw the new T4i which seems really neat also. What would you guys purchase?

A few months back I purchase a T3i for myself but end up giving it to my wife so I'm looking for something to learn off of again. I really enjoy the T3i but I like the feel of the 60d in my hands. I figure the T4i will feel the same as the T3i.

I figure I could pick up a 60d + really nice lens or else get the 7d w/kit lens_

Looking to spend no more than 2000USD

I'm looking for something I could use for the many years to come

60D is a great camera, but what are you mainly taking shots of? And one thing I've learned over my few years of photography, focus more on the lenses, rather than the cameras and in most cases, avoid the kit lens.

if you haven't yet found which style of photography you'd like to do, the 7d with the kit lens is a good idea. using a standard zoom will let you know about where you want to go as far as which lenses fit your style the best.

I usually do a lot of portrait shots, mainly travel photography. I sometimes do some landscaping shots, but rarely. What I'm most interested in shooting is people and places that I visit. I don't like to distant myself too far from the subject that I am taking pictures of.

Last year I went on a trip to China with the T3i and I really enjoy using the 18-55 kit lens that came with it, I mainly used that for the entire trip considering I did buy an additional 55-250mm Telephoto Lens that I rarely used, only when I was taking shots at the local zoo in Beijing where I was quite far from the animals. I found it useful.

I want something that can be so much better than the 18-55mm Lens but about the same shooting range. Perhaps an L-series lens that can out perform it. I have notice most of my shots were not as great with the kit lens on the T3i. I want to invest in a really nice lens that will be of use to me when I do decide to go Full Frame also, but be able to use it on a crop body for now.

I'm still learning, but I want to take it to a more serious level considering I want to go Full Frame in the near future once I learn more.

60d with a kit lens to get you started and then grab a 50mm 1.8 or even better the 1.4 if you can swing it.

Fantastic camera. I shoot with it professionally all the time.

The 60D is still a good choice, and yeah the 650D pretty much has the same body as the 600D, the main improvement is with the video mode and auto focusing with STM lenses. My vote is to get the Canon 60D Body + 50mm 1.8 lens "the plastic fantastic" + 17-40 F4L Lens

Should come to about $2000 and would give you a pretty decent kit. Another option would be getting the 60D Body + 17-55 2.8 lens.

Canon 60D $899
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM $1099
Total $1998

Canon 60D $899
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II $109
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM $779
Total $1787

I wouldn't bother with the kit lens.

If you ever plan to go full frame in the future I wouldn't get the 17-55 EF-S as it can only be used on a crop sensor body like the 60D, whereas the 50mm 1.8 and the 17-40 both can be used on a full frame camera like the Canon 5D, and would make a good investment if you plan to upgrade sometime in the future. In either case, all three lenses are good lenses.

You're in Alaska, so you should qualify for the Canon Loyalty Program (see link in my sig). 60D for 20% off Canon's refurbed prices, and all you need is an old Canon camera (film, point and shoot, doesn't matter; can be (and is encouraged to be) not working! Try to keep it cheap, you can usually find them for ~10-15$ for these purposes).

DK mentions the 7D; it's a great camera for sure and it's about to receive a nice firmware update, but if you don't need the features (upgraded 19 point AF system, faster burst FPS rate) then the 60D should be fine.

60D and 17-55 2.8 will be good for you. If you feel like you want a small stepup the 7D is a pretty beefy camera. Both will perform nicely. And definitely look at 17-40 f4 if you plan on full frame in the future

Alright, I made the order_ should be here by the end of the week, I decided on the 60D and the 17-40L Lens for now, also pick me up another 32GB Sandisk memory card because on my last trip I filled up 16gb really fast, just within a good couple of days.

I'm really looking at the F1.4 50mm Lens, I keep hearing many good things about this lens, so I'll purchase this little guy next week and give it a go.

Try the Sigma 50 f/1.4 if you can. A bit more expensive BNIB, but there have been some absolute horror stories (even locally) about the quality of the Canon 50mm f/1.4. Just ask Jason..
