The deathadder should function better at 1800 DPI anyway (iirc higher PCS), but that's if you really need it that high anyway. 400 DPI should be fine. And there shouldn't be any noticeable difference when using the slider. Try it. I couldn't feel the difference and I play on 42cm/360. And it won't be any more accurate because of the loss of counts, so input should be interpreted similarly.

Noteworthy:

This is incorrect when a game ticks EPP on (older games like 1.6), when EPP is ticked ON, the slider in Windows switches to different values (a mild but noticeable difference).

Using 4 with EPP ticked off is pretty much the same as halving your dpi (a good solution for mice that only perform good on 1 certain dpi setting).

But that also means you'll have to use the launch cmd's like noforcemaccel for a game like Counter Strike, because else it'll turn on EPP (and use the accuracy values from the mousefix), which in turn will then switch to a different scaling for the slider (although 6/11 remains unchanged).

With EPP on for instance, 5/11 is 0.8 and not 0.75.

Probably it's caused by CPL Mousefix. For CS 1.6 -noforcemparms + EPP off is better solution.

So this thread is inactive but I just got a new Razer mouse and found this thread on Google. I was actually looking to change the DPI of my mouse and eventually figured it out (it is under performance, or you can bind one of the buttons to a sensitivity function [read the manual])

However nobody here really explained the difference between Dots Per Inch (DPI) and sensitivity very well IMO, so here goes:
DPI refers to the sensor on the mouse's ability to detect movement. if you had a mouse with 1 DPI then you would have to move the mouse an inch for the cursor to move 1 pixel on the screen.
Sensitivity refers to how Windows interprets input from the mouse. With our theoretical 1 DPI mouse and sensitivity at maximum, the pointer would stay at the same point on the screen until the full inch was covered and then suddenly the pointer would be 6 pixels over*. (and conversely at minimum sensitivity the movement is -6 pixels instead of +6 pixels).
*However, in actual practice this isn't really the case. the surface upon which you use your mouse affects the DPI detected by the mouse sensor. Usually the game itself also performs it's own sensitivity modifications. Windows is also a little smarter about the mouse movement than simply adding pixels to the movement and as mentioned here Enhanced Pointer Precision (EPP) also changes the math.

The recommendation is usually to turn of EPP and set windows sensitivity to 6 because this tells windows not to modify the input coming from the mouse. this in turn lets you modify the DPI (only one variable) to taste and be getting pure unaltered input more or less directly from the mouse. This is not to say that there are not reasons to use the other settings, but generally if you can find a DPI you are comfortable using without these modifiers you are unlikely to benefit a whole lot from changing anything.
