We set out to make it as easy as possible for everyone to upgrade to Windows 8. Starting at general availability, if your PC is running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 you will qualify to download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99 in 131 markets. And if you want, you can add Windows Media Center for free through the “add features” option within Windows 8 Pro after your upgrade.

When you use Windows.com to purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant makes upgrading simple by walking you through the upgrade process step-by-step from purchase to download and then of course installation.

Looks like MS is finally making upgrades more affordable.

Hmmm. I still don't know if I would buy it. I have not been hearing the best about 8.

I might go to Windows 8 on how it gets reviewed and the new perks it has, for $40 it's not bad at all.

I tried the consumer preview and honestly I kinda like W8. It is more streamlined and responsive and while I didn't use the Metro apps, the removal of the start menu isn't a big deal as it really just changed form into tiles and a search box.

I think most of the hate is from people who just like to hate since it's the cool thing to do.

seems like they're trying to bribe us with low prices because of all the negative feedback out there

you arent serious right?i hope you werent serious because clearly you dont know nothing!you own a 1 million house in 2007 today you own a 250 000 $ house same house but market crashed!you still have that 900 000 left to pay then tell me if you can afford!

sadly i dont think i ll update.economy might get even worst after the us election i dont want to be caught off guard!people dont seem to understand dept and deficit concept!money doesnt grow out of tree!
the vast majority of us couldnt justify to our better half why we spent the money we dont have on an os when previous one work!

sorry for rambling!

Uh, it doesn't say that anywhere in the article. It's an upgrade to pro... where do you see it saying that the upgrade requires pro or higher?
