7770 can has future?

So im a bit torn between 6850 and 7770

They cost exactly the same from where i can get them (€120). The 6850 clearly has an advantage in most conventional situations while the 7770 pulls ahead in some situations where the hd 6xxx series just sucks (like skyrim) and in compute performance. I've seen some cards improve tremendously with driver updates a good while after their release, question is does the 7770 have the potential to catch up to the 6850 like that or not?

Also open to nvidia suggestions all though their cards dont seem to have much to offer at that price point, no used cards since i get 20% tax return from store bought stuff + warranty and a nice box.

Get the 7770... its more comparable in most cases to the 6870.

6850 still priced around the 7770 not because of performance...but because of supply and age. Older stuff takes more to produce and demand still high for ppl who wants to CF.

7770 is new technology, cheaper to make... and more mass produced and widely available.

If you want... the comparable products is GTX 560 Ti, but then its more expensive than the 7770. The 7770 is your best bang for your buck at the moment.

Well I can't give you any first hand experience from a 7770, but from 6850's in CF I can tell you they're great little cards that don't produce tremendous amounts of heat until you really clock up the cards and push the voltage.

That being said, the 6850's do not continue to constitute $120+ at this point in time, even brand new. The price of them is still high and for what reasons I'm not sure. I purchased a 6850 used, reviewer card, about a year ago (or a little more), for $125.

I personally think that last-generation prices are still relatively high in the 'brand new' segment, probably inflated a bit, again for reasons I can't be sure of.

And you hit the nail on the head at the Nvidia prices point - AMD clearly is a winner at lower pricing points with relative performance considered.

The last bit I can say is this - the 7770 is newer, better architecture, and will have better resale value if you choose to go that route simply because it's still current generation.

But the 7770 is more power efficient, right?

This should be all the info you need on these cards, the 7770 is better at high resolutions and is more power efficient

The 6850 is stronger than the 7770 at lower resolutions but is power hungry.

Good Luck!thumb.gif

Get the HD 7770 and overclock the crap out of it.
As of now,my take on this is that the 7770 is too highly priced. In that case get the 6850 or if you afford the 6870 go for it. Both are more powerful than the 7770. An alternative card,if it is in your budget then have a look at the GTX 560Ti. That defeats the 6850,6870 and the 7770.thumb.gif

You have made a choice you will never regret! Nvidia's has PhysX and AMD gpu's suck at games when it comes to PhysX:cheers:
