Win VIPRE antivirus software! - San Francisco Event Giveaway - Page 2

Hy,
Here are my answers:

1) Do you use an antivirus? If so, which one?
At this moment NO. I just use a HIPS & Bi-directional Firewall program: DEFENSEWALL.

2) How does using an antivirus affect your system?
I cannot tell if i do not use it. But DEFENSEWALL does not affect my system resources at all...

3) Have you ever been infected by malware?
Yes...a long time ago (6 - 7 years) when i did not knew almost nothing about security.

4) How should someone handle an infection?

Backing up data and scanning with an antimalware (MALWAREBYTES, EMSISOFT ANTIMALWARE or HITMANPRO) 3 - 4 times per month.

Thanks! and GoodLuck to all participants!

1) Do you use an antivirus? If so, which one?
VIPRE Internet Security 2012.

2) How does using an antivirus affect your system?
VIPRE doesn't bog or slow my system down. Unlike most antivirus programs which bloats their computer resources, VIPRE is by far the lightest antivirus I've ever used. I've never experienced any slow down while using VIPRE.

3) Have you ever been infected by malware?
Yes, a couple times. I downloaded a suspicious program from the internet which turns out to be a backdoor Trojan and keylogger. Apart from that, most of the infections came from the autorun viruses.

4) How should someone handle an infection?
Someone with good computer knowledge shouldn't have any problem when dealing with virus infection. But for beginners, I would highly recommend them to speak with a licensed technician, before they go any further. The first thing to do is to switch off the internet, and that means their WIFI, adsl modem/router, broadband, etc. It's advisable to backup important documents and data first, but make sure those files are 100% free from infection, otherwise they will have similar problem - infection loop being repeated over and over again. Next, download multiple malware scanners from a different computer and install it. Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware, Emsisoft Anti-Malware, Spybot Search & Destroy, VIPRE Rescue are among the good ones, just to name a few. Start scanning multiple times and if the problem still persists, speak directly with a technican or go online and get help from active computer forums.

1) Do you use an antivirus? If so, which one?
Yes. I use the free version of AVAST antivirus.

2) How does using an antivirus affect your system?
The most annoying thing is my antivirus very often turns my system slow.
I tried other alternatives & found out almost all the security programs are actually RESOURCE-HOGS! mad.gif

3) Have you ever been infected by malware?
Yes, several times. I lost count of how many times I had to reinstall my windows after affecting by irremovable malwares ***sigh**

4) How should someone handle an infection?
I think the safest way is to KILL it ASAP! If complete removal is not possible, then one may try FIXING it..although my personal experience is quite bitter about the fixing of infections.
Always believed that PREVENTION is better than CURE! Hence, my recommendation is to remain pro-active i.e. keep aware of infections rather than being re-active, i.e. taking measures after being infected! thumb.gif

1) Do you use an antivirus? If so, which one?
Yes I use Avast free Antivirus.

2) How does using an antivirus affect your system?
It slows down my system. I've to wait for an extra 7 seconds to open my browsers in presence of an antivirus.

3) Have you ever been infected by malware?

Yes 3 times. Two were trojan horses. And the other one was a rootkit.

4) How should someone handle an infection?
I think he should use live cds like Dr. Web CureIt or Emsisoft Emergency kit. And if that does not remove the problem, use a WINPE rescue disk to boot in and use an disk imaging software to restore to a clean image. The computer will be free of infection no problem thumb.gif

1) Do you use an antivirus? If so, which one? Yes, Microsoft Security Essentials
2) How does using an antivirus affect your system? Depends on which program. Some are more intrusive then others.
3) Have you ever been infected by malware? No
4) How should someone handle an infection? Boot into safe mode, run multiple virus scans, disconnect any external drives (such as back up HDDs), ask OCN what else to try, reinstall Windows.

1) Do you use an antivirus? If so, which one?
Yes, Avast.

2) How does using an antivirus affect your system?
I haven't noticed any negative effect, speed-wise; but it does keep most viruses off the computer (younger sister and mom like to click links on facebook. Lol).

3) Have you ever been infected by malware?
Yes. Twice, I think.

4) How should someone handle an infection?
Back-up data, safe mode, scan, clean; and if unsuccessful, reformat, as far as my experience tells me.
