You gotta stick in DLCs and unlockables before gameplay and support.

Haha, I thought that right after I posted. Actually, DLC is usually priority before the game is even released. I mean, you have games that ship with the DLC on the release client already, but charge to unlock it. It's a joke.
The indie studios are really coming up huge now. Look at Runic - they are an 'indie' studio yet they have devs that have been around and lead in games like Diablo 1 and 2. Yet only charging $15-20 for Torchlight II which so far is shaping up to be an amazing game. Good thing we have studios and devs like these guys around.

Actually i'm for this, the industry needs reform, it's getting pathetic. Greed has delved much too deep into this once great industry.

July 5th, 2012:CoD carcass in alley this morning, boot tread on broken disk. This industry is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The stores are extended gutters and the gutters are full of hype and marketing and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sequels and DLC will foam up about their waists and all the CEO's and developers will look up and shout "Save us!"... and gamers'll whisper "no."

People are sheep. As long as AAA companies make AAA commercials telling people that their AAA game is AAA good, it will be bought and the cycle will continue. Unless companies are given a reason to change, they will continue to do whatever makes them a profit. Until consumers speak with their wallets by refusing to shell out for mediocre, repetitive, and unoriginal games, nothing will change.

I think the reason why indie games are becoming popular is because they are the few developers left that still think gaming is an art form and not just a cash cow for Micheal Bay like films. They tend to focus more on more innovative gameplay then hd/3d/physx/destructiveenvironment/ graphics. A good point you brought up is Braid. What made it so different from regular Mario or other platformers? The chance to turn back time in game and use it as a problem solver. Interesting and new compared to platformers that go from point a - point b and avoid some sort of obstacles. AAA titles end up being "realistic gfx" or the next X killer (be it WOW or be it COD) but in the end they all end up being the same as the ones they try to badmouth. MOH == COD my 2 cents

Well I didn't like the direction BF3 took. I didn't even buy it. I played Amnesia but didn't like it as I found it to be boring. It is nice that indie developers still have respect for the craft but they need a budget that will allow them to really bring the best out of them. It's kind of a crappy situation altogether. The people that care don't have enough money and the people that don't care have too much.

I don't care much for Minecraft either. Building games aren't interesting to me

AAA games are the Apple products of video games. All marketing and hype but definitely not the cream of the crop. The key thing to note in common here is that they both sell well regardless of this. I don't see any crash.
