Gaming in 1600X1200 Sorry I am a noob.

Thread Starter
I have a monitor that can run 1600x1200, I have noticed that my games look great in it, yet stretched on my old setting of 1600x1050

So, I assume That I now just run my games on 1600x1200 and things should be fine.???

I thought 1600x1200 was a 4:3 resolution?, that's still OK for gaming?

It looks fine, runs fine and Yes I know i could run higher.

You're thinking of 1600x900 (which is 16:9). Go with at least a 16:10 ratio for gaming. For typing and reading 1600x1200 is great but for gaming it offers a small field of view.

Whoops, yes, yes I was but soon quickly realised. Hahaha, oh dear. Many apologies for feeding you bad information.

To be brutally honest I knew I was totally wrong straight after I posted it; I did the math and went OHHH DAIIIM... then someone beat me to correcting myself.

It depends entirely on what kind of game you're playing.

Lots of games benefit from a non-widescreen ratio, while others flat out punish you for not using 16:9.

Diablo III is a good example of a game that "requires" 16:9 to be worth playing. IMO, it SHOULD have been designed to be more friendly for 4:3 in mind but whatever. Widescreen ratios don't help you in Diablo when your boss is below or above you on the map.

D2 is far better smile.gif

I have a Dell 24 inch U2412M, thus why I was asking. I had never had the option with my previous monitor. I was scared I would noticing ghosting with the 8ms, but I have not seen a thing thus far, its amazing.

Seems on BF3, Dirt3, The Witcher 2 etc etc etc, The 1600x1200 seems to look good. I was just making sure that I was not robbing myself by not using 1600x1050.

Thanks guys, such fast responses here, I love this place!
