Which "model" of the GTX 670 do you guys recommend? I plan on oc'ing the crap out of it!

Hi,

I want to buy a GTX 670, and plan on overclocking it like I did with my 6870s.

My 6870s are stable (with minor voltage increase) at 1005/1225, which is the max I was able to and still maintain temperatures below 85C in furmark. Also, the cards turned off at anything higher when doing the unigine tests, and around test 15 or so would crash. Considering they're reference with no aftermarket anything, I'd say that's pretty good!

Anyway, I've been looking at some of the 670s and I was wondering which one would be best for overclocking.

I looked at the EVGA FTW version, but I am a little wary of the factory overclocked moniker. My friend had an ASUS overclocked card that had to be downclocked... which kind of defeated the purpose of buying an overclocked card. Also, its reference so the fans are probably loud. My 6870s are unbearable over 35% fan speed (but this keeps them quite cool, with the top card max temp about 70-75C in bf3). Still, really annoying.

The Galaxy 670 loooks nice but how good is it for overclocking? Is the aftermarket cooling on it good or is it just for show?

Also, is it true that with the 600 series all you do is increase the power target or w/e to 125% and work from there? It seems much easier than finding the right voltage as it looks like the card automatically selects the appropriate voltage.

So please let me know which brand/model 670 is good!

Thanks

I should add that I do like the Galaxy one, but they're kinda like the new guys on the block right? But it seems like people love their products, which is great. Also they seem like they actually care about product quality.. which is kinda rare. Its just that i'm a lil wary of the aftermarket fans. hope they're not gimmicks

That's the card.

One of the people I played WoW with had a galaxy 580 and he said that card rocked.

OC'ing is pretty easy now, it's just different than before. Increase power target, increase offset and monitor your clocks.

Regarding 670 FTW, card is pretty solid you should not have to worry about it.

How good is the galaxy one?

I read ten reviews on the newegg responses where the evga ftw card had to be returned due to it not working properly. I had to do that with my motherboard and it was not fun spending a month without my computer waiting for it to be replaced.

Also I read that lots of other complaints about that card on sites like toms hardware and right here on ocn too.

I would go Asus if you want quiet and one of the fastest solutions. The only other card I would personally consider is the MSI. Galaxy and EVGA aren't bad though.

To OC the crap out of it,how MSI Power Edition,it will soon get the software unlocked voltage control,so it's really the best choice for OC:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127685

If not that one, then go with Gigabyte Windforce 3X,many of the card's owners managed to push it into the 1300Mhz+ teritorry...

Asus DirectCu is great too,I have it,and I'm very happy, very silient, and a great cooler on it.But for OC'ing,at this time,MSI would be my first choice...

ASUS Direct CUII or Gigabyte Windforce x3 , EVGA FTW seems solid as well but it's not as quiet.

Okay, thanks for the help guys.

I will compare the galaxy, asus, gigabyte, and galaxy cards in terms of price, reviews, and some benchmarks.

I really want a quiet solution because my case is super silent right now except for my graphics cards. They're silent on idle (25% fan) but when the fan profile kicks in and the temps pass 70C, my cards make sounds akin to a fighter jet's afterburners.

If you highly value silence,Asus DirectCu should be your first choice smile.gif
