50$ Headphones help

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm looking to buy some headphones. The ones I have right now are the Sennheiser HD 201 they where okay, but no sound comes out the right ear anymore. I'm looking to spend about 50$ and I'd like to buy it from Newegg or Amazon. I have no clue whats good these days. Is 50$ enough for good quality headphones? I can go a bit more if needed. Thanks.

Good enough in terms of audiophile quality or in terms of usability?

I'd say It's about 70% music 30% movies. When I'm on my PC you can bet I'm listening to music. But I'm by no means listening to the highest quality music files.

You could try the jvc harx700's. A couple questions you can ask yourself to help narrow your options are 1) what are my priorities gaming or music? 2) what kind of music am I going to be listening to? 3) what kind of headphone do I prefer: in ear, full size etc. 4) is sound isolation important to me?

The Superlux HD668B is what I'd go with for maximum performance for your dollar. You might not like the design at all, but that's not what's meant to be great about these! If you want something more versatile and maybe comfortable, I'd check out the Koss Portapro.

It's always good to know how you'll be using them, though. Different types of music are better with different headphones.

Okay. I like to listen to mostly indie music. Beach House, Japandroids, Grimes, etc. Very little rap if any at all.

I'd definitely go for the Superluxes, then. They're pretty neutral with a buff to the highs and lows.

Also the JVC HARX900 and 700 are very good options. They're also worth considering.

Okay these are what you guys have recommended so far.

JVC HARX700
Superlux HD668B
JVC HARX900

I've been looking at these

Samson SR850

Do you own the Superluxes? I have a big head. do they stretch large?

Any other recommendations?

I don't own the Superluxes, but I do have a pair of JVC RX700s. HUGE cans, especially after I tucked felt under the pads to give my ears more room and change the sound a bit. The Superluxes and Samsons should handle big heads just fine. The headband design adjusts automatically, like on some AKG headphones. The SR850 shares drivers with the 668B and Samson is a Superlux OEM. In short, they're almost identical.
