1250w or 1500w PSU?

Thread Starter
I'm needing to pick your brains for some insight. I'm trying to decide if a 1250 or 1500w PSU is more sufficient for what I need.

I'm needing to power an FX-8150 (oc'ed), 3-way SLI GTX-480's, 4 HDD, and a full watercooling loop in my build.

The two power supplies I was considering are either the:
Corsair Professional Plus AX-1200:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139014

or the SILVERSTONE ST1500 1500W :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256054

For an SLI and watercooling setup, can you get by with 1200w, or is it really preferred to go with a 1500w? Having a tough time deciding. I know that the GTX-480 has a 600w minimum PSU rating but I can't find maximum draw for a 3-way SLI. I'm leaning towards the Silverstone for the simple fact that it has a 8 seperate +12v rails, but dont want it to be overkill if 1200W would be enough for the whole system.

Thoughts?

so according to the calculator it's saying 1112w at 90% load, 1223w at 100% load. Thinking a 1250-1350 would probably be all that's needed. Anything more pay pop a breaker tongue.gif

FSP Aurum Pro 1200, Antec HCP 1200 or Kingwin Lazer Gold 1300, excellent units and way better priced than both your choices atm.

I'd like to ask though, what possessed you go with Bulldozer for such a system?.. it will heavily bottleneck your cards.

This!
You really need a highly clocked 3570/3770k to be able to use those 480's properly. That CPU will really bottleneck the crap out of them. Even with one high end GPU they struggle.... let alone 3.

At the time it was a combination of cost for the mb and CPU however I'm also not heavily gaming. It's more for a photography workstation. I'm not ruling out upgrading it to an intel system later. It was hard to justify $1000 for a CPU at the moment without my wife leaving me smile.gif

I'd get the FSP Aurum Pro 1200W. It's under $210 with shipping:

thanks for the lead on that I'll check it out. As for the bottleneck issue, I find it hard to believe ill come across it often as it really is t brig designed as a sole gaming machine. But even then what sort of effects will you see with a bottleneck? What will the game or system do? Lose a few fps? Lol
