Laptop for school

Hey guys I'm in search of a new laptop for school. All i want it to do is to be able to run office, internet, watch movies. I want it to be light and thin.
I'm mainly going to be using my desktop in my profile but I want something i can carry to school so i can type when i need it. No Apple please.
My price range is anything from 300-1500 i guess. but best bang for the buck will be preferred.

Hp sleekbook maybe?

you can design your own, so you can pick cpu and gpu, great performance, free 4gb memory upgrade, and free 500 gb hdd upgrade, saving 100 dollars.

How bout the dell 13z? Are the dells any good these days? about 9 years ago in college i had a dell laptop and it was horrible. But i heard they got better. Now if I go with the 13z is it worth paying the extra 100 for the i5 vs i3?
